SFPD has kenneled several dozen seemingly young kids & skaters at Dolores Park after an hours-long slow-moving chase to shut down the annual “hill bomb”
Cops have trapped the group between rows of officers
The group is being forced to sit, it is unclear if they are under arrest
SFPD was earlier in the evening moving from corner to corner, clearing intersections
Skaters moved from block to block evading the police, tagging up some Muni cars & buildings
The crowd eventually dwindled, the kids who are remaining were caught between two groups of police
A sergeant on scene said they are all being arrested, 50-60 people
A high schooler who was with the group earlier said the group is almost entirely teenagers
He got away but an officer swung at him with a baton, he said
It’s unclear what the charges are
A crowd of bystanders is shouting “Let them go!”
SFPD have brought out boxes of zip ties & officers have begun loosening then, seemingly in preparation for a mass arrest
The kids are still on the ground
It’s the second time in less than a week that a mainstay Mission event has been forcibly shut down by SFPD
Officers chased crowds on July 4 who had gathered to set off fireworks at corners used for festivities every year
This persistent strain of bad faith engagement with supply side arguments is baffling, as if every academic paper published in the past decades showing importance of more housing is just the rich hoping for a come up.
More market-rate supply isn't enough—it likely won't bring down rents for poor even if median rents drop; the Urban Displacement Project pointed this out a while ago (though counterfactual is what rents for poor would've been in absence of such housing). urbandisplacement.org/research
We need billions in social housing that'll directly counter displacement & lower rents for the poor, but at $750K per unit, San Francisco will become Palo Alto before the state can entirely build the housing we need on its own. sfchronicle.com/bayarea/articl…
ICE warrants are not real warrants. They are not reviewed by a judge & you do not need to open your door if presented with one.

Save this number: 415-200-1548. If you live/work in San Francisco, that's the number to call if you see a raid taking place. It alerts the San Francisco Immigrant Legal & Education Network. sfilen.org/resources/sf-r…
