The Left is in an interesting place with Muslims right now. They really didn't expect Muslims to stand so firmly against the groomers. After their experiences with Christians and Jews over the past 50 years, the Left didn't think anyone was willing to fight for their beliefs.
One reason Roe v. Wade was such a landmark in the radicalization of our elite culture was that it showed left-wingers they could browbeat religious people out of their beliefs. Even the most radical pro-abortion leaders were not excommunicated. Religious leaders compromised.
That was a powerful lesson for the lefty radicals. Notice that THEY don't hesitate to use their own version of excommunication against anyone who blasphemes against THEIR weird religion. That's basically what "cancel culture" is.
The Left is totalitarian to the core, and it thinks fanatical, total commitment is a measure of sincerity. If a rival ideology is not willing to use all forms of social, economic, and political pressure to advance its beliefs, it's not as serious as the Left is.
For five decades the Left pushed, and everything else - religion, social conservatism, and eventually plain common sense and science itself - gave ground and fell back. Now we have biologists pretending the number of human sexes is a complicated question.
Every step of the way, the Left concluded that defenders of culture, tradition, and science weren't really serious. They weren't as committed to holding ground as the Left was to taking it. People who wanted peace kept making compromises, thinking each would be the last.
But now the Left is having a bit of trouble with Muslims, a group they believed was tucked securely into their hip pockets as part of the Coalition of the Oppressed. They're dumbfounded to see Muslims turning up at school board meetings to oppose sexual indoctrination.
It's not easy for Lefty to turn his big guns against the Muslims and bully or otherize them. More likely a deal will be struck with renewed support from the international Left for blasphemy laws. The UN just took a step in that direction with a "religious hatred" resolution.
Blasphemy laws are an easy bargain for the Left to make because it doesn't believe in classical liberal values like free speech anyway. Lefty only shrieks about free speech when people try to keep twisted left-wing indoctrination materials out of schools.
The Left is really pretty cool with the notion of blasphemy laws, because it has its own LONG list of speech it wants to ban as "blasphemy" against its weird political religion. Adding Quran-burning and insults against Mohammed to the list is easy enough.
This blasphemy stuff is a political bargain, a power calculation, not a statement of principle, so there might be a few gassy speeches about standing against all "religious hatred," but don't for an instant think that means the Left will suddenly start respecting Christians.
As far as the Left is concerned, Christians lost all their power and leverage long ago, especially white Christians, and they see most of organized Judaism as a progressive political ally. You don't see Jewish leaders turning against blatantly anti-Semitic Democrat pols, do you?
The free world is losing the battle for free speech, because its political elites are increasingly hostile to dissent. We'll most likely see a formal surrender to political Islam's view that free speech ends where Islamic sensibilities begin.
That will be a small price for the Left to pay for quelling grassroots Muslim opposition to LGBTQ and trans indoctrination, probably accompanied by quiet concessions to school districts with heavy Muslim populations to keep the worst of that junk away from their kids for a while.
As for the rest of the so-called "religious right," the Left thinks you were defeated and subjugated a generation ago, so your kids are getting indoctrinated whether you like it or not, and if you object, the full power of the State and corporations will be turned against you.
In other words: you didn't excommunicate them a half-century ago when you claimed they violated your sacred beliefs with a judicial fiat, so they now have the power to excommunicate you for blaspheming their bizarre religion, and they WILL use it. /end

Every ruling elite will inevitably conclude that authoritarianism is the only reasonable strategy for accomplishing its urgent and morally unimpeachable goals. Every last one of them will decide authoritarian government is the only way to preserve certain "key freedoms."
Speech can only be "free" under a regime of heavy censorship to protect the people from "disinformation." Elections must be "fortified" to keep citizens from making "bad choices." Fairness and equity require centralized government and endless wealth redistribution. On and on.
The elite see remorseless logic in the slide toward authoritarianism. After all, power is useless without obedience. Every ruling class realizes disobedience can only be minimized by politicizing every aspect of life, and putting some reserves of power beyond public control.
One reason Juneteenth isn't catching on organically with the general public is that it's obviously a politicized partisan "holiday," not a celebration where all Americans are invited to join hands and rejoice in a great achievement. That's what it should be, but it isn't.
The rest of our political culture loudly insists every day that no "victory" has been won against slavery or racism. We're told they are the founding sins of America, for which there will never be atonement or forgiveness. We're told "white supremacy" remains a systemic problem.
If anything, our hysterical racial grievance industry and the ruling Democrat Party say racism and white supremacy are getting WORSE. We're all supposed to feel perpetually guilty and submissive to endless demands for reparations. So what great victory does Juneteenth celebrate?
Remember that the objective of totalitarianism is to make the majority FEEL like a helpless minority - surrounded at every turn by the ideology of the totalitarian Party, unable to escape political messages in any corner of daily life. The onslaught of politics is unending.
People who are surrounded tend to assume they are also outnumbered. If the ideology of the Party is everywhere - blasted through every screen and speaker, scrawled on every sheet of paper, infused into every food and beverage - dissidents naturally feel atomized and isolated.
One of the most effective arguments for gay marriage was that it wouldn't affect straight marriage at all. So what if two men can get married now? Recognizing their wedding would place no great burden on others.
Trans fascism shatters that truce. It's explicitly coercive.
There's a strong and growing backlash against trans identity politics for that reason. People were told no great burden would be placed on them with same-sex marriage. You can still interact with the participants as men or women in a common-sense, good faith manner.
But with the plunge into transsexual insanity, that truce goes out the window. You are forced to deny common sense and basic biological science, forced to use "preferred pronouns," forced to let men into the women's bathroom, forced to watch men crush women in sports.
A culture that cannot look honestly at the past, without edits and "context warnings," is weak and insecure. The ruling class is saying its subjects cannot be trusted with the truth of what happened centuries, decades, or even years ago - and the cutoff date keeps moving up.
A just and confident culture has no fear of what came before. Its educated people know the past was a different place. They can look upon it with understanding rather than disdain or superstitious dread. They can LEARN from it.
The most important skill for learning is humility. To be a good student, you must acknowledge you don't know everything, and even the things you know could be wrong. Arrogant people learn only the most painful of lessons, and usually get them wrong.
If you don't pass laws specifically forbidding the use of private capital to enforce the political ideology of the ruling Party, then fascism is your inevitable destination. Money and power are irresistibly drawn to each other, and will give birth to fascism if not kept apart.
You can short-circuit fascism by keeping the power and wealth of government strictly limited, which is also the only way to restrain corruption. If the State doesn't have vast amounts of coercive power and tax subsidies for sale, Big Business won't come knocking.
Obviously that's not a solution for the U.S. today, at least not without a generation of work to undo the insane out-of-control growth of government at all levels. Our grandparents should have known there are no big, clean governments, no matter how idealistic they claim to be.
