Yesterday, I had the privilege of gathering talented devs, pixel artists, and composers from the FAMICOM/NES indie scene at a cozy Tokyo bar😍 (I confess I wasn't sure they would come😅)

Let me share more about this incredible 8bit evening! ⬇️

Small introduction first…

On planing vacation in Japan with my wife and son (SJ Games), I decided to reach out to some devs in Tokyo for a drink 🍺 ☕️

Started contacting them weeks before my departure, and to my delight, they responded positively!

Most of them confessed to me that they didn't have the opportunity to meet each other.

So this was the perfect opportunity!

And I found the perfect place for that FAMICOM/NES homebrew/indie/doujin game meetup: the @8bit_cafe in Shinjuku!

@8bit_cafe The Japanese NES homebrew scene (FAMICOM doujin games) was quite exclusive for years…
Japanese devs usually work solo and sometimes sell their games through Japanese stores like @kadenken or @BEEP_SHOP

But these games are starting to attract international interest...

@8bit_cafe @kadenken @BEEP_SHOP A few days before my departure for Japan, I was still waiting for some answers, having decided that as long as I was having a drink with FAMICOM indie devs, why not try to contact them all? 🤣

The last reply arrived the day before the meetup.

@8bit_cafe @kadenken @BEEP_SHOP The vacation schedule was quite busy. SJ , my wife and I arrived at the 8bit café almost 10 minutes late (a good start 🤣).

As soon as I got there, my payment card didn't work, so I had to go back down 5 flights of stairs without an elevator to get to the ATM on the corner.

John @brizobst was also there, and has been living in Japan for several years now. His new NES game (Pelusa Saga: Kaji's Trials) is out this week (at @Broke_Studio) 😘

I got the impression that everyone had a good time, and that the experience was interesting. I hope we'll do it again soon.
