🧵 1. Our NATO allies need honor their commitment to spend 2% of GDP on defense.
2. The National Defense Authorization Act (“NDAA”) for FY2024, now pending in the Senate, proposes roughly $300m in NEW funding authorization for Ukraine.
3. I have an amendment to the NDAA that would restrict that new funding authorization for Ukraine until all of our NATO allies meet their commitment to spend 2% of GDP on defense. We expect to be voting on my amendment soon.
4. My amendment would incentivize NATO members to do what they said they’d do.

🧵 1. To anyone who believes Article 5 of the NATO treaty supersedes the Constitution—and can take us to war automatically without action by Congress—PLEASE READ IT before you reach that conclusion. Here’s what it actually says:
2. Lest there by any doubt on the matter, Article 11 of the NATO treaty makes clear that “[t]his Treaty shall be ratified and its provisions carried out by the Parties in accordance with their respective constitutional processes.” Thus, the NATO treaty, by its own terms, DOES NOT… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
3. Even if the NATO treaty contained no such language or contained ambiguous language on this point (to be sure, it does not), the underlying argument would still fail—miserably. You can’t nullify a provision of the Constitution without amending that document. Doing so, of… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
The ONLY senators who voted to reaffirm that no treaty—not even Article 5 of NATO—can take America to war: Braun, Cruz, Daines, Hagerty, Hawley, Johnson, Kennedy, Lankford, Lee, Lummis, Marshall, Paul, Rubio, Schmitt, Tuberville, and Vance. 🧵 1. Big win for one company when FDA decided to treat transplanted pancreatic islet cells as drug treatments rather than organs. dailycaller.com/2023/07/17/fda…

🧵 1. This is Article I, Section 2 of the Utah Constitution. Do you read it to limit in any way the legislature’s power to modify or repeal a law previously enacted through a statewide ballot initiative? Should it matter whether the law deals with legislative redistricting? https://t.co/JRgSSdFfastwitter.com/i/web/status/1…
2. I ask because the Utah Supreme Court appears to be considering this question.
3. Far from an esoteric matter, the answer to this question could have profound political consequences for Utah—not just for years, but for decades to come.
🧵 1. In this video, @SenTedBuddNC flips the script on those attacking @SenTuberville based on his refusal to expedite military promotions.
2. @SenTuberville has agreed to expedite the promotions as soon as @SecDef stops flouting federal law (10 USC 1093) by using @DeptofDefense funds to facilitate abortions.
3. @SecDef could end the standoff on military promotions TODAY, but apparently prioritizes his woke agenda—here the use of @DeptofDefense funds to facilitate abortion—more than the expedited approval of the promotions in question.
