We are East London's 100% fan-owned & fan-run football club.

Here’s a thread explaining what makes us different & how this works in practice 🧵👇
OPEN
Anyone can become a member - £5/year concession, £10 regular, £20 ‘solidarity.’ Everyone gets voting rights, a share in the club, a card, badge and weekly newsletter. We currently have 1,565 members

You could be number 1,566: membermojo.co.uk/ccfc
DEMOCRATIC
Every member has as much opportunity to have a say as everyone else. They can vote on items at our general meetings and on individual issues as they come up, through our newsletter. These could be large, unbudgeted expenses or choosing the new kit design.
FLAT STRUCTURE
There is no hierarchy at CCFC. Any member can join committees, which are responsible for their own decisions, within their own budgets. We replaced the traditional Board with a General Organising Committee, where reps from each area report and co-ordinate. CCFC org chart
EQUITY

There is no hierarchy between our women's and men's first teams either.

In everything we do, from budget and resources to our comms, we give each the same amount of love.

❤️🖤🤍❤️💛💜
TRANSPARENT
We publish our monthly finances on our website, including everything from large purchases like the warehouse next to our ground, right down to stationery! Could be quite interesting to see some other teams try that 👀

COMMUNITY
It's in our name. We are partnered with over a dozen local groups, supporting causes close to our hearts.

In 2020 we set up a Hardship Fund where members could request money on a no-questions-asked basis, raising £14,907.06 to date.

PAY-WHAT-YOU-WANT

On the gate, we will always try to give an option to pay-what-you-want (down to zero)

No one should be priced out of football
ALWAYS ANTI-FASCIST, ANTI-SEXIST, ANTI-RACIST, ANTI-HOMOPHOBE, ANTI-TRANSPHOBE Back of Clapton CFC shirt, saying 'no pasarán'
OPEN ACCESS
Our training sessions, 5 and 11-a-side teams have got 100s of women & non-binary people playing football - many of whom had been denied access or marginalised.

8 players have progressed to play dev or 1st team 11s…& continue to get better & better!

GROUNDBREAKING
Our 21/22 Women's FA Cup run (the 1st tier 7-a-side to make 3rd round) showed the gap in prize money with the men. We even had to crowdfund the trip to @ArgyleWFC. In 22/23, the FA were forced to act (but they still need to do more…)

YOUTHFUL
We run loads of sessions in E7 & E17 with 100s of young people participating in our fun, inclusive, pay-what-you-can sessions and working with The Magpie Project, we have provided a space for vulnerable kids and refugees, and have run a homework club in the Clubhouse!

SOLIDARITY
We have run tournaments raising over £1k for @UVWunion, @iwgb_union & all gender tournaments with Queerspace & Outside Project. We partner with Renaissance FC, giving young refugees access to football & other support. + much, much more!

APARTHEID FREE
Members voted to promote & support the BDS call from Palestine & become an official Apartheid free zone. We're proud to take action, to give Puma the boot & to give Israel the red card. We've also worked with CADFA to host Palestinian youth & women's teams at OSD. CCFC players hold up cards saying 'BOYCOTT PUMA' in front of a 'FREE PALESTINE' banner at our stadium
INTERNATIONAL
Our members are based in 33 countries. We see ourselves as part of a network of like-minded teams worldwide and have struck up friendships with those who have visited us...and those we have visited

HISTORIC
Since moving into London's oldest football ground, The Old Spotted Dog, in Forest Gate, E7, we have cut the grass with every imaginable tool and given it more than just a lick of paint!

Following developments in the world of sport today, we have made the decision to host our home game tomorrow behind closed doors, with only essential volunteers in attendance. We will be reviewing the situation for future matches. [thread]
We have become concerned that with other events called off, we might see a higher turnout when we would rather have room for the necessary social distancing measures.
We are taking this action to reduce the risk of transmission of the Coronavirus, and to reduce the need for lots of people to travel - to give more space on public transport to those who need it to get to work.
