28 Ways to Guarantee Poverty by @AlexHormozi

A year ago Alex posted an epic list of one-liners.

Then he expanded on the ideas in a video.

Here’s all 28 with my added commentary (so you don’t stay poor).

Plus, a bonus reminder in tweet 2 below: Image
@AlexHormozi 1. Start tomorrow

• We like to put off the important for the urgent.
• We choose comfort over discomfort.

Alt: Build the habit of doing things now.

His new book $100M Leads comes out next month.

@AlexHormozi 2. Read books. Do nothing.

• I was guilty of this for so long. My bookshelf got full. My life went nowhere.

Alt: Balance content consumption with conscious action.
@AlexHormozi 3. Take advice from poor people on how to be rich

• Poor people, friends, and complainers don’t know how to get rich.
• Why take their advice?

Alt: Take advice from people who have already done what you want to do.
@AlexHormozi 4. Pick a spouse who will make you feel guilty for working

• Hormozi works, a lot. So does his wife Leila.
• Your spouse shouldn’t squash your ambitions.

Alt: Work hard, play hard. Get on the same page as your spouse.
@AlexHormozi 5. Fail once, quit forever

• You didn’t walk, ride a bike, or do anything the first time you tried.
• Quitters quit. Don’t do that.

Alt: Learn from past failures, keep trying until successful.
@AlexHormozi 6. Think the world is fair

• It’s not. Deal with it.

Alt: The world's not fair. Period. Stay focused and ambitious.
@AlexHormozi 7. Blame your circumstances & complain

• Your environment and circumstances might be tough. That’s the truth.
• Continuing to blame and play victim keeps you broke.

Alt: Decide you will create an epic origin and comeback story. Get started today…
@AlexHormozi 8. Complain, do nothing about it

• Complaining is easy. So is drowning your sorrows.
• Complaining without action changes nothing.

Alt: Start with small actions and stay consistent. Daily action will transform your life.
@AlexHormozi 9. Expect the government or other people to save you

• No one is coming to save you.
• The “I need to be saved” mentality keeps you a victim.

Alt: “Save” yourself. Start taking more action. Control what you can control.
@AlexHormozi 10. Value the opinion of others over your own

• You’re an expert on you. No one else knows what your dreams and desires are.
• Deep down, you know what you need to do.

Alt: Take a moment to write down exactly what you need to do. Put it on the calendar. Do it.
@AlexHormozi 11. Avoid discomfort

• The comfort zone is a death sentence.
• Because comforts lull you into a life of mediocrity.

Alt: Do hard things. You don’t have to go “David Goggins” crazy, but you need to push yourself harder.
@AlexHormozi 12. Tolerate mediocrity

• Speaking of mediocrity, we get what we tolerate in life.
• Mediocrity from others and ourselves leads to crappy outcomes.

Alt: Raise your standards. Give a shit more. Demand greatness from yourself and others.
@AlexHormozi 13. Make promises, break promises

• 95% of New Year's Resolutions are broken by day 13.

Alt: Stop aiming for perfect. Set goals you can achieve, achieve them, then set bigger goals.
@AlexHormozi 14. Wait for perfect conditions

• The perfect time never comes.
• The perfect time to start was yesterday.

Alt: The next perfect time to start is today. What are you waiting for?
@AlexHormozi 15. Prioritize LOOKING rich over BEING rich

• Instagram rich is easier than actually achieving it.
• Getting into debt to look rich but be poor is a mindf*ck you don’t need.

Alt: Get money. Buy assets. Repeat.
+ Don’t spend money on stupid shit. Invest it instead.
@AlexHormozi 16. Avoid working on what matters most

• Easy tasks are fun.
• Know what’s better? Doing shit that takes you closer to your goals.

Alt: Write down the top 3 most important tasks that further your career, build your skills, & make you money. Do them first thing every morning.
@AlexHormozi 17. Say you’re going to do something and then don’t do it

• A recipe for unfulfilled potential.

Alt: Work in silence.
+ The advice to “disappear for 6 months” can make a lot of sense.
Don’t @ me you build in public folks 😜

“Real Gs move in silence like lasagna.” - Lil Wayne
@AlexHormozi 18. Do what everyone else is doing

• It’s crowded at the bottom.
• Doing the same shit as everyone else = never standing out.
• Never standing out = not growing and getting paid peanuts

Alt: Go deep on a subject. Go hard. Find your way to stand out!
@AlexHormozi 19. Do your best, not what it takes

• Doing enough to get by in life = mediocrity and low pay.
• Doing what it takes not to get fired keeps you stuck in the rat race

Alt: Be so good they can’t ignore you - Steve Martin
@AlexHormozi 20. Talk more, do less

• Alex kinda repeats himself here with good reason.
• Talk is cheap son. Everyone’s got the same goal you’re shouting about.

Alt: STFU about “I’m gonna dominate” and just go do it.
@AlexHormozi 21. Start something new today, start something new tomorrow, repeat

• Shiny object syndrome will kill you.
• FOMO will keep you broke.

Alt: Find a proven blueprint. Work the blueprint. Get results. Keep going.
@AlexHormozi 22. Believe what other people think about you more than what you think about you

• Again, no one knows you better than you know yourself.
• They don’t know what you’re capable of becoming.

Alt: Become the person you dream of becoming. It’s time to go f*cking beast mode!
@AlexHormozi 23. Make a mistake, then repeat the mistake

• Tony Robbins talks about people saying they tried 1,000 things. They actually try the same thing over and over again.
• Life’s not groundhog day.

Alt: Test, learn, iterate, test, learn, make progress.
@AlexHormozi 24. Be replaceable

• Low wage jobs = replaceable.
• Low skills = replaceable.

Alt: Invest in yourself. Learn marketing, copywriting, selling, and communication skills. Apply them ruthlessly.
@AlexHormozi 25. Find something that works, then stop doing it

• I had that viral thread once. Great, keep writing them!
• Alex says go all in on one avatar, one channel, one offer until you hit $30MM sales.

Alt: Do what Alex says. Find something that works, go all in and put blinders on.
@AlexHormozi 26. Hire dumb people

• WTF. Why would you do this?

Alt: Hire hungry, humble, and smart people. Your income will skyrocket. If you don’t have employees: be hungry, humble, and smart.
@AlexHormozi 27. Assume you’re always right

• You’re not.
• You can always learn from someone else.

“If you've been in the [poker] game 30 minutes and you don't know who the patsy is, you're the patsy.” - Warren Buffett

Alt: Listen more than you talk. Assume someone else is smarter.
@AlexHormozi 28. Make money. Spend more than you make.

• It’s not how much you make, but how much you keep.
• This is true at EVERY income level - see MC Hammer, Mike Tyson, etc.

Alt: Live below your means, always. Avoid lifestyle inflation.

Tony Robbins’ mentor was Jim Rohn.

Jim’s mentor was Earl Shoaff.

He's the guru behind the guru's guru.

These 17 quotes are the real deal.

Read them.

Live them.

Watch as they transform your life:

1. “Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were BETTER.”
2. “To have more, you’ve got to BECOME MORE.”

3. “DISCIPLINE is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”

4. “Work harder on YOURSELF than you do on your job.”

5. “Don’t wish for less problems, wish for MORE SKILLS.”
6. “Success is something you attract by the person you BECOME.”

How many do you do?

0. Live below your means - at every income level. The ultimate wealth hack.

2. Save at least 20% of your income monthly - start with whatever you can.

Awake for hours.

My family, sound asleep.

The ocean waves are crashing.

I am so blessed & grateful for my life.

Here are some lessons that might help you live your best life.

1. When someone says "just kidding" they're not.

2. A divorced, overweight billionaire is broke.🧵
3. Your mother loves you more than anyone in the world.

4. "Retirement is when you stop sacrificing today for an imaginary tomorrow. When today is complete, in and of itself, you're retired." - Naval

5. Travel while you're young. You're young right now.
6. Those ahead of you are not better than you; they're just in a different life stage.

7. If someone has done something, you can copy their blueprint.

8. You shouldn't be handing out life advice if your parents still pay your phone bill.

I started investing when I was 19.

I’m 49.

Here’s every major lesson I learned, latest to the first in my 30-year career:

1. If you’re standing at a urinal, don’t look over at another man’s:
Portfolio.

Background: In January 2021, my portfolio was soaring.

I thought I was hot shit.

Then some big account posted about his 140% gains for the month.

You read that right.

TL;DR - He was into options and leverage.

And so I made a mistake….
Learned about options, used leverage (more about both in a moment).

I had some monster gains for months.

It was like a casino, but I was playing with house money.

November 2021 came and it all crashed on me.

I licked my wounds and went back to the basics.

Amy Cuddy’s TED Talk has 15.3MM Views.

It’s the second most popular….ever!

She just SOLVED Imposter Syndrome with a 6-word phrase.

It’s ridiculously easy to use...
Imposter Syndrome sucks.

What is it?

Ever felt like you don't belong or that your achievements are just luck?

Until you break free from self-doubt and embrace your abilities, you’ll never be successful.

Unfortunately, the most common “solution” for it doesn’t work…
You’ve heard the phrase “Fake it until you make it”

You might have said it yourself.

But it doesn’t work.

Why?

Your subconcious mind sabotages you.

Your internal voice won’t shut up - telling you that you're a FRAUD.

Amy has the solution and it’s stupid simple to use..
