Can someone explain how it safeguards National Security to indict the Mar-a-Lago maintenance guy -- of course for the "voluntary interview" he gave to those friendly FBI agents Image
When the initial indictment was handed down on Trump for alleged Espionage Act violations, the immediate Expert Consensus was that the case was a slam-dunk -- prosecutors had Trump dead to rights. Six weeks later, they've resorted to ensnaring Carlos the maintenance guy
The way prosecutors "pile on" by targeting hapless bystanders, like Carlos the maintenance guy, is often extremely sadistic
Next person who repeats this cliche is getting pelted with a tomato

Your belief in the childlike moral simplicity of a historical event in which the US deliberately bombed 1.5 million civilians to death, at the direction of a president who deceived the public into said war, is nothing if not a testament to the power of state-crafted war mythology
It's no exaggeration that this unexamined, childlike conviction in the moral simplicity of WWII is what underpins our entire civilizational mythology. So you can see why the conviction is so entrenched, and why people are so bewildered in the off-chance it's ever contested
Ask the average American if they have the faintest clue that all the most infamous Nazi concentration camps never stopped operating after the Nazis were defeated. They were simply taken over by the Allies -- who used them to conduct their own campaign of mass ethnic extirpation

Once again the Senate rejected a proposal to establish a lead Inspector General to oversee Ukraine spending and enhance legislative oversight. This wasn't some "isolationist" measure: it was introduced by hardcore GOP hawks Wicker and Kennedy. But the Dems still all voted it down Image
It'd be fascinating to hear the likes of Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, John Fetterman, etc. try to explain why they're so adamantly against establishing a lead Inspector General to oversee Ukraine spending. Their answer would probably be something like "goo goo gaga Putin"
The majority of Senators are never even questioned on why it is they vote the way they do on these Ukraine items. They never have to give an explanation. Seriously, what the hell would Bernie even mutter if he was pressed to explain his arbitrary opposition to Ukraine oversight

Here's why I find it highly implausible that Nate Hochman, the former National Review journalist turned DeSantis staffer who was just fired for putting a Sonnenrad/Black Sun in a campaign video, was somehow totally oblivious to the symbol's Nazi-related meaning (as he claims) Image
First off, I operate from the assumption that Nate Hochman is generally a competent, intelligent individual. At 25 years old, he was hired as a speechwriter for the DeSantis campaign, after having previously worked for National Review. This requires basic competence/intelligence
If producing and circulating this video was just an honest "mistake," as Hochman claims, it couldn't be a typical thoughtless mistake: like writing a typo in an email, or making a wrong turn in the car. This little project obviously required attention and intentionality to create

Skepticism is a two-way street. Let's briefly go through the three allegedly suspicious deaths of Kevin Spacey "accusers" people like to bring up

"Accuser" No. 1 expressly denied even making an "accusation," describing his interaction with Spacey purely as a "hilarious" anecdote https://t.co/dIyhUaLNhe
Image
The non-accusing accuser, a Norwegian writer, was reported by his manager to have died from suicide in December 2019 after dealing with alcoholism and depression. It is it "skepticism" to baselessly insinuate that Kevin Spacey was somehow involved in a random death in Norway?
"Accuser" No. 2 was also not an accuser, but an adult woman who had previously admitted to stalking and threatening to kill Spacey. She reportedly died after causing a head-on collision. Is it "skepticism" to insinuate that Spacey was involved in this random death in Quincy, MA?

Kevin Spacey has now been resoundingly cleared of every MeToo-era accusation against him that's actually been adjudicated in a court of law -- despite having his career and reputation destroyed. At what point can it be safely concluded that someone was a victim of a moral panic?

After the initial wave of (now disproven) MeToo allegations, Sony went so far as to remove any trace of Spacey from a *finished movie* he had starred in. Netflix severed all ties with him, despite his lead role in "House of Cards" putting Netflix on the map for original TV series

Yeah, it's true Spacey remained an affluent celebrity throughout the whole ordeal. But that doesn't mean he was any less wronged by the moral panic, which upended his life for six years -- based on allegations that have now been comprehensively discredited in two countries

If this new "Barbie" movie isn't any good, they'll have botched the most effective movie-promotion scheme in decades. I can't recall being so thoroughly informed across so many different consumer product dimensions that a certain new movie is about to be released
Example: elaborate “Barbie” themed pop-up bakery selection at entrance of the grocery store this weekend Image
An enormous amount of energy and resources was expended devising this highly effective cross-dimensional Barbie marketing strategy. Just imagine all the Powerpoint presentations and conference calls. Respect
