Wow. I did not know Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese gave a bizarro pro-Assad speech at a “Hands Off Syria” gala dinner in June 2013. He described the Assad regime as a “sophisticated, secular state” fighting “religious fundamentalism.”
Within two months of Albanese’s June 2013 speech endorsing the Assad regime, Bashar launched his hideous Gouta chemical attack that murdered thousands of civilians.

We have very low calibre MPs who do not read books, MPs with no interest in world affairs. Ethnic fascist groups form community associations in their electorates and invite them along to galas. MPs think the Assad rally counts as multicultural engagement so they go along.
Turns out Albanese has the biggest Syrian community in Australia in his electorate. His political calculation was that supporting Assad would help him electorally. Now days he is presiding over the major AUKUS alliance deal because he thinks it will help him electorally
