Since the 2019 El Paso Mass shooting, there have been nearly 2,539 mass shootings across the United States.

When is enough enough?

Today — on the fourth anniversary of the mass shooting in El Paso — we're going to talk about gun violence and where we are as a country: 🧵
The Gun Violence Archive (@GunDeaths), a non-profit group established in 2013 to monitor gun-related violence, defines a mass shooting as an incident with at least four people shot, excluding the shooter.

So far in 2023, the US has seen an average of two mass shootings daily.
In mass shootings with four or more people killed, 25% of the mass shooters were prohibited from possessing firearms at the time of the shooting.

Over half of the 35 deadliest mass shootings in the last 120 years occurred in the last decade.

Annually, 43k Americans die from gun violence, more than an average of 116/day.

Compared to similar nations, the US has the weakest gun laws yet the most guns (393 million).

Nearly every American will know at least one victim of gun violence in their lifetime. ℹ️@GIFFORDS_org
The Latino community is disproportionately affected by gun violence.

In the past five years, 27% of Latinos report they or a loved one experienced gun violence, compared to 13% of white Americans.

From 2014 to 2020, gun-related deaths among Latinos have reported a 66% increase.
Evidence highlights how across the nation, as gun laws weaken, gun deaths rise.

According to a yearly analysis by @GIFFORDS_org, 26 states have F grades, including Texas, Arizona, and Georgia.
As mass shootings continue, proposed solutions include:

✅Background checks on all gun sales
✅Extreme risk "Red Flag" laws
✅Prohibit assault weapons and high-capacity magazines
✅Deny people with dangerous histories from having guns, including those convicted of hate crimes
Gun violence and mass shootings do not have to be a continued reality. Thoughts and prayers are not bulletproof.

We honor the victims of El Paso — and all victims of gun violence — by urging our leaders to take action and end gun violence. #LoveForElPaso

Today, Voto Latino will endorse Vice President @JoeBiden for President of the United States.

This is our first presidential endorsement in our history. This is not one we take lightly. It comes at a time when the Trump administration continues to attack the Latinx community.
For the last 3 1/2 years, Trump has consistently shown his disdain for Latinx & other communities of color.

We will not forget how he enforced cruel policies against our immigrant communities, by caging children, separating families and jeopardizing the lives of DACA recipients.
We will not forget how Trump launched his toxic presidential campaign by labelling us "rapists, criminals, and drug dealers."

We will not forget how he ignored Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, and then denied the deaths of our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters.

Hey citizen gente! 👋🏽 Here’s some ways you could be an ally ahead of the #ICEraids.
See an ICE checkpoint? You can ask them why they are stopping and searching cars. You can also ask where they’re taking people. Now is not the time to be silent.
If ICE is asking folks for their IDs on a bus, train, or anywhere else, refuse to show yours, so you’re the one resisting not undocumented folks. Ask ICE why they’re there in the first place. Ask them for a warrant signed by a federal judge.

Your monthly reminder that this President is stoking anti immigrant hate when the FACTS show that crime has plummeted even as our undocumented population has grown. (Thread)
Receipts.
Worth noting that @realDonaldTrump did not tweet for over 5 hours about the Las Vegas shooting that killed 58 and injured 500.

His selective outrage is tied directly to the race of the perpetrator of the crime.
