A thread about Peter Parker being an amazing, spectacular, sensational, friendly neighborhood Spider-man… to kids! 🕷️ Image
TWs: child abuse , child neglect , child death , housing crisis , gun violence , terminal illness , overdose , and more. Please proceed with caution if you find any of those topics and related topics triggering.
This thread will not include any interactions between Peter and his children, because I feel it is a given that he treats them well. I’d just be sharing entire comic runs.
There are way too many moments of Peter with kids to share them all, if there are any you really want to share, please feel free to comment or QRT with it!
Now, onto the actual thread!

If I told you Peter was good with kids, your response would probably be a “well, obviously.” There are very few heroes who aren’t good with kids.
But Peter is legitimately very good with kids and enjoys being around them! Enough to become a science teacher for a while and he was very good at it— teaching is a passion for him and he genuinely loves educating children.

In the comics leading up to his teaching job, Peter protected students and guided them when an active shooter was at the school.

This would establish the tone of his teaching career: he knows kids look to him for guidance and he’s going to provide it.

In the aftermath, it was stated that Peter understood how difficult it would be with the students to return to some semblance of normalcy.

And he was determined to be there for them. Image
Straczynski’s entire run on Spider-man is full of these interactions and highlights it. His presence in the lives of his students also helps ground him to the neighborhood better.

Peter knows how to gently poke at a child without pushing them too far, while making sure they know he’s there for them.

Peter saves an unhoused teenager after a drug overdose. He risks his identity by taking the teen to the hospital and pressures the unbothered doctors to tend to him.

And as Peter Parker, the science teacher, he comforts one of the children involved afterwards.

Amazing Spider-man #37 Image
While it sometimes seems like Peter is annoyed by children, Peter is almost always willing to play along to any childish nonsense that is thrown at him (as long as lives are not actively at stake).

… and thinks about how much potential she has later in the issue. He cares about these kids and wants them to succeed.

Peter sees a young, terrified child walking with a gun and reprimands police officers when they attempt to get involved: they’ll make things worse. It cannot be ignored here that the child is Black.

Peter approaches the child directly from the front and talks him down, later reuniting him with his father.

Peter is pretty immune to any nonsense that can be thrown at him by kids. Literally.

Amazing Spider-man #515 Image
Peter ended up teaching a class of mutants for a short while, where it was once again demonstrated that he’s very, very good at directing children in tense situations.

Peter is also very good at conflict resolution between children.

Peter even has a habit of grabbing students by the back of their clothing, essentially scruffing them like a cat would scruff a kitten.

And now we get into Peter’s interactions with kids outside of teaching. Both Spider-Verse films are great for reference, but I’d like to bring attention to a specific scene in Amazing Spider-man where Peter gives his mask to a child.

Peter has no problem with removing his mask to make children more comfortable.

Branching into recurring children in Peter’s life, we’ll start with Normie Osborn since Peter’s willingness to unmask for children is on display again.

It is important to note that his interactions with children in Spectacular Spider-man Annual #14 are surrounding the grief Peter feels that he couldn’t save Harry during his childhood. He’s saving and interacting with children, but he’s specifically thinking of Harry Osborn.

Peter has also repeatedly appeared in Franklin Richards’ life, because he’s close to the F4 and he sees himself in Franklin: lot of power and responsibility at a young age, Uncle Ben, and an uncle who “died.”

Peter Parker is remarkably good at teaching and handling children and anyone who claims otherwise is oftentimes projecting their own dislike for children into him. Don’t be fooled.
