Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto was actually a recitation of ideas first put forth by Adam Weishaupt of the Bavarian "Illuminated" secret society.

Marx's early writings, poems, and stories frequently used occult references.
The more of Marx you read (I'd only really read Engles), the more you see of these quasi-megalomaniacal themes. "conquering the world", "sitting above everyone", etc. (Admittedly, it could just be rantings of an angsty 20-something. It reads like Tumblr posts frankly.)
