Here is a summary of the curricular atrocities in this video:
1. The perpetual minimization of slavery. “Slavery has existed forever, we weren’t the first…” as if that absolves the founding fathers from the crimes against humanity/Black peoples they KNEW they were guilty of.
2. The blatant jabs at BLM movement & any progressive or “radical” (as they call it) attempts to end systemic racism in society, particularly within law enforcement.
They even insinuate that these protestors go around casually, intentionally lighting things on fire.
And it is these statements, ironically, that are incendiary in nature, not the people attempting to protect human rights.
3. If you don’t work within the confines of this broken system, then you want to destroy the entire country. It’s that hyperbolic. And even more insulting, it’s coming from the mouth of animated Frederick Douglass.
4. You can’t, or rather, you shouldn’t learn about social justice across curriculums.
Social justice in math class??? The horror!! 😱
The implication that social justice is confined to a single segment of a student’s curriculum suggests that it only exists in that hemisphere of history. This frees society from the communal obligation we all have-to protect human rights for every citizen, in every context.
None of the information provided by the animated Douglass is offered with appropriate context. It confuses his hard fought, savvy efforts to end slavery with a permissive, simplification, and undermines what abolitionists of the era actually endured & achieved.
This video bastardizes the essence of Frederick Douglass. It’s insulting for me as a former history/govt teacher. I can’t imagine how devastating it must feel for Black people to see this dehumanizing curriculum implemented (or continued) in Florida public schools.
Also maddening, though not equally so, the Reagan video review will be next.

Politician Jeffrey Brown gives one of the most cringeworthy answers I have seen in a political debate in the history…of ever.
But it does shed light on an important issue that isn’t given enough attention-environmental racism. 🧵
When asked about illegal dumping in the neighboring city of Chester, Brown cooly responds, “the trash has to go somewhere.”
While Brown’s response might be shocking, it is an honest one.
As Chester’s residents can attest-Black Americans have long suffered the impacts of environmental racism, as politicians knowingly accept contracts with corporations that plan to openly pollute in poor communities.
Because now farting leprechauns are the real threat, conservative republicans in llano County Texas are asking council members to close their library rather than follow a judges order to reshelve “offensive” books.
And I use the term offensive loosely, as the some of problematic books in question include a book referencing the KKK as a terrorist group and a children’s book about Gary…a goose with gas.
Proving that once again, Republicans have a problem with history, humor, and reality.
The books were pulled off the shelves last year with no notice given to library patrons, who then sued, claiming their 1st & 14th amendment rights had been violated.
North Dakota now requires students to watch a high definition anti-choice video that shows “early fetal development.”
And it’s full of as much propaganda, misinformation & manipulation as you might suspect. 🧵
The new law was signed by Republican Governor Doug Burgum on April 6th and will require all health & human sexuality curriculum to include a video featuring an AI-generated “Baby Olivia,” as she develops in what I can only describe as an RV-sized womb.
The video, produced by conservative anti-choice group Live Action, is 3-minutes long and chronicles the development of Baby Olivia from fertilization, claiming that “this is the moment that life begins.”
