EZ TROPHY! Was inspired by @MTGMilan beating me with Arcanists in the prelim on Monday to revive 'GDS', although maybe more accurately 'Grixis-Arcanist-Shadow or GAS for short'... (results/thoughts in reply upcoming) (cc @fireshoes)
August 9 2023 - GDS Arcanist
R1: (draw) Green Tron LWW
R2: (draw) Creativity WLW
R3: (draw) Temur Rhinos LWW
R4: (play) Dimir Ring WW
R5: (draw) Izzet Murktide WW
you def want some big guns (it's too easy to churn into nothing happening if you play literally 0 death's shadow), but it's also like you don't want to play a million of that card (2-3 feels right to me) 1/n
proactive cards (like discard) play really really well with arcanist. cards like drown in the loch don't. spell pierce is in the deck due to how the format is shaped atm (good vs ring decks and vs ppl trying to cast cascade cards too) 2/n
unholy heat + drc are still really broken (i rediscovered that playing murktide on monday). they're especially good here too because you can fuel your arcanists by surveiling either removal or preordains into your gy 3/n
i unjegantha vs tron for break the ice, maybe there's a better solution, but i don't see one? 4/n
of course there's still room to improve the deck, if i had to guess. the exact creature makeup is hard to figure out, but i wanted to play max drc/max arcanist/max ragavan before bowmaster or shadow
5/n .. if other ppl have thoughts, i'm very interested to see where you go / what thoughts you have, assuming you actually test and play some with the deck :) 6/6
