It’s been quite the day for the forces in the battle for and against democracy in NYC.
A short thread:
The administration fired the person who would’ve been responsible for prosecuting NYPD Chief of Dept Maddrey for using his influence to spring a friend arrested for chasing two kids while waving a gun at them. thefreelancenews.org/home/nypd-fire…
Then the oversight agency for the city’s jails filed suit to get back their charter-enshrined right to see video evidence, unilaterally withdrawn by NYC Department of Correction. nytimes.com/2023/08/09/nyr…
All of which was a sickening flashback to the deputy mayor for public safety firing the chief who led the investigation of the DM for an array of alleged crimes.
End result: just the unsavory sobriquet of "unindicted coconspirator" in fed corruption case nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-c…
And today’s events also provided a current day parallel to the Adams administration's day 1 firing of DOC commissioner for trials because she refused to simply "get rid of" pending use of force cases against staff. nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-c…
Wait, and did I mention that the hand picked successor to the deputy commissioner of trials, oops, ended up being fired when it was revealed that he was selling cases cheap. nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-c…
