As residents of Hawai'i mourn the loss of life and devastation taking place across their beautiful home, we mourn with them.
Like I've said, not only our prayers are with those impacted – but every asset we have will be available to them.
Here's the latest:
1. @FEMA’s Temporary Sheltering Assistance is now available for residents who were displaced from their homes by the wildfires, allowing survivors to shelter in hotels or motels temporarily as they develop a long-term housing plan.
2. We're laser-focused on getting aid to survivors, including Critical Needs Assistance: a one-time $700 payment per household offering relief during an unimaginably difficult time.
We have staff on the ground dedicated to helping survivors navigate the registration process.
3. We're making sure all residents receive critical information so they can take steps to move forward in their recovery.
This includes translating materials into the most common languages spoken in the islands and working closely with trusted community-led organizations.
4. I'm urging residents to apply for FEMA assistance.
Survivors with internet or telephone access can register for assistance by visiting , calling 1-800-621- 3362, or by using the FEMA App.DisasterAssistance.gov
5. And for those trying to locate loved ones, a Family Assistance Center is open at the Kahului Community Center.
Those with phone access can also call the Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767.

For years, student loan borrowers haven't received forgiveness under their Income-Driven Repayment plans despite making payments for over 20 years.
I'm determined to fix it.
Today, thanks to my Administration's actions, 804,000 borrowers will start to see their debt cancelled.
Today’s actions come on top of all we’ve been able to achieve for students and student loan borrowers in the past few years – from attaining the largest increases in Pell Grants in over a decade to fixing the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
And, we’re not done.
As I announced in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision on our student debt relief plan, we will continue to pursue an alternative path to deliver student debt relief to as many borrowers as possible as quickly as possible.
I came to office determined to change the economic direction of this country, to move from trickle-down economics to what everyone – from the Wall Street Journal to the Financial Times – is calling “Bidenomics.”
Here's what it means:
First, we're making investments in America.
We’ve already announced funding for 37,000 infrastructure projects powered by American materials and workers, and are bringing supply chains back home while unleashing a factory boom.
Second, we're empowering American workers.
On my watch, real incomes and household net worth are up, Americans are back in the workforce at record rates, we're creating good jobs that don't require a 4-year degree, and we're reversing the 40-year decline in unionization.
Millions of Americans are experiencing the effects of smoke resulting from devastating wildfires burning in Canada, another stark reminder of the impacts of climate change.
Here’s what our Administration is doing:
I spoke with PM @JustinTrudeau to offer additional help putting out these fires, particularly those in Quebec that have severe impacts on American communities.
I've also directed @NIFC_Fire to continue to promptly respond to Canadian requests for additional firefighting support.
I've asked @SecretaryPete to keep me informed about his progress to proactively manage the air traffic implications of the deteriorated air quality based on lessons learned from prior incidents.
In a year when March Madness often lived up to its name, both our women’s champions, @LSU, and men’s champions, @UConn, showed us the best of what this country can be. 🧵
Congrats to @LSUwbkb who demonstrated excellence on and off the court. They showed us what it looks like to win with an unrelenting belief in themselves.
And they did it in one of the most-watched women's sports games in US history.
Meanwhile, @UConnMBB returned to glory with a series of dominant performances that were often incredible to watch.
Congratulations to the team for building a program that is set up to build on that success. And @UConnPresident, maybe I’ll see you next time I’m back up on campus.
I reaffirmed my commitment to making sure they have everything they need.
Let me give you the latest.
Today, the @EPA ordered the train company, Norfolk Southern, to pay for the clean-up and disposal of hazardous materials.
This is common sense. This is their mess. They should clean it up.
Our team is working in lockstep with state and local officials and were on the ground hours after the train derailed.
- @EPA is monitoring air and water quality
- We've screened 500+ homes
- @CDCgov has deployed chemical assessment personnel
- We've deployed @fema resources
