1. @Moms4Liberty is engaged in an aggressive campaign to cancel sex ed in schools
At their recent convention, they spoke candidly about their issues with sex ed and their strategy
That session was closed to the media
But Popular Information has obtained a recording
🧵
2. The session was led by Kelly Schenkoske (@kellyske). She strongly objected to the concept of CONSENT being included in sex ed curriculum. She argued teaching kids about consent is counterproductive and leaves children vulnerable to sexual exploitation
@kellyske 3. Schenkoske does not appear to have a background in sex ed or any other form of education.
She is also prone to conspiratorial thinking.
On this website, Schenkoske promoted several posts suggesting that the wildfires in Maui were a government plot
@kellyske 4. Schenkoske also objected to curriculums that recognize LGBTQ people and relationships without treating them as abnormal. “[Heteronormativity] is the norm that a male and female relationship [is] the norm. But this idea is very much to remove or to get away from that concept.”
@kellyske 5. In an April 2022 interview in the Washington Examiner, Schenkoske accused the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC of pushing comprehensive sex ed, CRT, and SEL "to create an unholy trinity of left-wing proselytization in today’s classrooms"
@kellyske 6. Schenkoske and Moms for Liberty are not just holding forums criticizing sex ed. They are successfully altering sex ed curriculum to conform to their agenda, most recently in Leon County, Florida.
@kellyske 7. Things got really wild when the session was opened up to audience questions. One member of the audience claimed that children in Michigan could be castrated at a school clinic without their parent's knowledge. This is completely absurd, but was not corrected by Schenkoske.
@kellyske 8. This platform is controlled by a mercurial billionaire who uses it to promote right-wing ideology and conspiracy theories
I recommend getting accountability journalism directly by subscribing to Popular Information
1. The AP African American Studies course includes material on Little Rock Central High School, where the Little Rock 9 played an essential role in desegregating public schools.
But Arkansas just REJECTED the course, saying it violates state law on "prohibited topics"
🧵
2. In March, @SarahHuckabee signed the LEARNS Act which prohibits "teaching that would indoctrinate students"
The Arkansas Department of Education provided absolutely no explanation of how or why the AP African American Studies course is indoctrinating
@SarahHuckabee 3. In addition to suggesting teaching the course in Arkansas is ILLEGAL, Arkansas says the decision is based on concerns that students wouldn't receive college credit
But that is false. 200 colleges already award credit for the course, INCLUDING THE UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS
1. A federal judge appointed by Trump, Brantley Starr, has ordered three lawyers for Southwest Airline to undergo "religious liberty training" by @ADFLegal, a right-wing anti-abortion group
WTF is happening?
Follow along if interested.
🧵
2. Starr's ruling is related to a case by Charlene Carter, a Southwest flight attendant, against the company. According to Southwest, Carter was terminated in 2017 for "a 2-year grossly offensive and terrible campaign to personally torment" a colleague
3. The company says "Carter sent dozens upon dozens of messages to Stone’s Facebook Messenger." The messages "ranged from the insults and name-calling to overtly grotesque imagery designed to inflict severe emotional distress."
Some messages are too graphic but here's a sample:
1. Media outlets have reported that Florida has reversed its position and will allow high schools to offer the full AP Psychology course.
This is false.
Florida teachers that follow the AP Psychology curriculum risk losing their jobs
So many school districts have canceled it.
2. In May, Florida officials asked the College Board to revise its AP Psychology course, citing a new state law restricting instruction on gender identity and sexuality through 12th grade
The College Board refused, stating it wouldn't censor the course
3. According to the College Board, told districts that they “are free to teach AP Psychology only if it excludes any mention of these essential topics.”
On August 3, College Board announced that AP Psychology was “effectively banned” in Florida.
1. For months, GOP politicians have blasted @budlight, claiming it's a malign force perverting American culture by partnering w/a trans influencer
Simultaneously, some of these politicians have pocketed cash from Bud Light's parent company, @AnheuserBusch
We have receipts🧾
2. Iowa Gov @KimReynoldsIA, who is chair of @GOPGovs, tweeted on April 24 that @AnheuserBusch is a "Woke Corporation… trying to change who WE are."
She also promoted a "real woman" beer koozie
@KimReynoldsIA @GOPGovs @AnheuserBusch 3. An online video promoting the koozies attacked @AnheuserBusch , saying "[s]ome big companies can't tell the difference between real and fake anymore" and "real women work too hard for this s***."
1. @washingtonpost, @axios, @cnn, and @nytimes are all "reporting" that, to convict Trump, Jack Smith has to prove Trump knew he was lying about the 2020 election
Trump's lawyer is saying the same thing. And so is Fox.
The problem with this analysis is it's completely wrong
🧵
2. A successful prosecution does not hinge on what Trump BELIEVED about the 2020 election. If Trump is convicted, it will be based on his ACTIONS.
3. Trump had a right to lie about the 2020 election whether or not he believed his own lies. The problem is Trump, working in concert with his co-conspirators, "pursued unlawful means of discounting legitimate votes and subverting the election results."
