Pilots deaths in India. Is Pilot fatigue risking passengers life ?

A thread !!
>Random sleep cycles.

Pilot rosters are formulated by softwares rather than humans.

Every job has a day shift or a night shift unlike aviators.

Pilots may operate a ‘day flight’ and a ‘night flight’ on very next day.

Unfortunately our body clock fails to adjust to such rapid adjustment.
>Spending too much time in pressurized cabins.

Aircraft’s are pressurized to approx 8000 ft elevation, that means reduced oxygen levels over extended durations. This combined with peak cognitive demands as the brain simultaneously processes data from around 20 instruments.
>Red Eye Flights
Red eye flights are where you fly during “window of circadian low” typically 2am-6am.

Your body is in the most fatigued state during these hours.

Earlier DGCA allowed 2 consecutive red eye flight for a pilot. But airlines got it changed .
>minimum rest cycle

DGCA defines a minimum rest period for pilots.
Minimum rest is an exception and not a rule.
But the softwares are optimized to plan the entire month on minimum rest and maximum duty.
>spending too much time away from Home

Pilots have to stay away from home for 10-15 days every month on layovers.
Young pilots might relish this.

But as you have family and kids, this causes a lot of physiological and emotional stress and affects your quality of life.
>No social life

Pilots don’t get a weekend off or a public holiday. They get an off when the softwares decides.

There is No Sunday, No Holi / Diwali

Planning social gatherings requires meticulous preparations. Pilots need to bid for their off’s, a month in advance which they might/ might not get.
>Salary

Pilot salaries are same from almost last decade and a half.
Most pilots spends 1cr+ on their training and 35-40% goes straight to the EMI on the pay cheque day.

Airlines have just gotten back to pre-covid salaries let alone any rise.
> Quality of food

With so many layovers and 3-4 flights a day.
Pilot survives on cockpit food, which is frozen and preserved to last long.
