This #VideoWednesday is another special treat. We will check out the February and March 1993 LaserDisc releases from Warner Home Video. Six double-sided volumes of the Authentic and Original Looney Tunes Cartoons series.
#LooneyTunes #LooneyTwt
Greg Method of The Bugs Bunny Video Guide stated in the website, that Warner was releasing more of their past specials. "The Bugs Bunny Mystery Special, Bugs Bunny's Mad World of Television, How Bugs Bunny Won the West, Bugs Bunny's Overtures to Disaster...
...Bugs Bunny's Lunar Tunes, and Bugs Bunny in Space."
Then came March 1993, "Taking a page from MGM/UA, the label finally started releasing its own cartoon compilations on laserdisc. Instead of massive, multi-disc boxed sets like The Golden Age of Looney Tunes...
...Warner decided to concentrate on single-disc collections with very specific themes. The first wave contained six laserdiscs priced at $34.98 each."
Thanks to LDDB, LaserDisc Database. Three volumes in the first wave came out in February 1993 and each one focused on horror cartoons, musical cartoons, and some of the studio's supporting characters. The other three volumes released in March are character collections.
"The laserdisc programs began with the same "This Is It"/montage opening that kicked off last year's Warner cassettes. Each compilation mixed iconic cartoons that for the most part were last seen on the Golden Jubilee videos with more underrated or otherwise unreleased material.
...86 cartoons were featured in Warner's inaugural assortment, of which 38 were new to home video."
Let's have a look at each volume in this wave.
First up. #LooneyTunes: Assorted Nuts. Memorable "Supporting Players" and Vintage Classics from the Looney Tunes Vault. This disc contains 16 cartoons as opposed to 14 (8 on each side). And this one has a lot of home video debuts.

Warner Home Video's entry of the #LooneyTunes into the LaserDisc market gave us the best collection of post-1948 shorts with some black and white Porky favorites too. Themed by character or a different topic, there is a ton of variety and no misses.
1993 is already a great start for collecting #LooneyTunes on LaserDisc. The next #VideoWednesday will highlight MGM/UA's next installment, The Golden Age of Looney Tunes: Volume 4.
