On this day, August 31, 1995, a powerful b0mb blast exploded outside the civil secretariat in Chandigarh, klling 17 people, including Punjab CM Beant Singh ji. More than 23 injured people were admitted to the hospital.
BKI teππorist organisation took responsibility for the klling. A human suicide bomber, ‘Dilwar Singh Babbar, was a serving Punjab Police officer who assassinated the CM of Punjab.
Teππorist Dilwar Singh Babar was recognised as a "qaumi shaheed" by Akal Takht. Dilawar’s portrait has been put on display at the Harmandir Sahib Museum.
