However much Meiteis try to paint Kukis as recent immigrants by using misinformation, they can’t deny the historical and genetic evidence that point to the fact Kukis are indigenous to Manipur and Meitei-Kuki history is intertwined Image
A paper published by Maishnam Rustam Singh et. al titled “Gene Differentiation Among Nine Populations of Manipur ” studied the genetic distance between 9 Manipuri population (Meitei, Rongmei, Liangmei, Kom, Koireng, Thadou, Gangte, Simte and the Muslim.)
academia.edu/resource/work/…
Image
The study utilised there genetic markers markers viz., A1,A2, BO blood groups, Rh (D) system and haemoglobin types for that purpose. Image
The study says that the genetic character of the Meitei is the average of the other 8 groups/tribes used in the study. Image
While it was found Meiteis are genetically farthest from Muslim(Pangals) and Koirengs. Interestingly it was found that Meiteis are genetically closest to Thadou (Kukis) and Rongmei (Naga) Image
So what can we conclude from this? Basically the study simply supplements the various other historical records and evidence that point to the fact Kukis are indigenous to Manipur.
I’m sure I’ll get a very passionate “that is not true” response from the Meitei side. But if they have problem they better take it to the author of the study M. Rustam Singh, who himself is a Meitei Image
Please note that the Meitei Brahmin were not included this study so it does not conflict with my earlier proposition that many Meitei are descendants of indo-Aryan mayangs.

A genetic study published by Underhill et al. in European Journal of Human Genetics found that around 50% percent of the Meitei population carry the Y halplogroup R1a1a, which means they are descendants of mainland Indian migrants and are not indigenous to Manipur
Image
So the very people that are spearheading this indigenous vs non-indigenous campaign in Manipur might discover that they themselves are descendants of mainland Indian immigrants who arrived in Manipur barely 200 years ago.

“Kuki” is an exonym of recent origin. The people we associate with Kukis today were already present in the hills surrounding Manipur known by their specific clan names such as Khongchai, Chingsong etc., even before the arrival of the original Meiteis led by Pakhangba.
In fact the original Meiteis led by Pakhangba can be called the first “illegal immigrants” to arrive in Manipur. Pakhangba was not born in Manipur, he was a military age man, most probably a prince or military man of some sort from one of the Shan states in Burma.
When Pakhangba and his men arrived in Manipur, the valley was already populated with different tribes. He and his men first established themselves in the Kangla area by defeating the original natives;the Poirei/Chakpa people. The term “Meitei”(Mee=man, Atei= not one of us) itself Image

You can’t brush over what’s happening in Manipur by saying that both sides lost lives and both sides suffered.

Both sides didn’t suffer equally because the nature and circumstances of their deaths are very different. Most of the dead on the Meitei side were armed combatants Image
no woman or children, all of them men who lost their lives while attacking Kuki villages. Men from Arambai Tengol, VBIGs and Manipur police. So most of death on Meitei side are legally and morally justified.

Also there has been no confirmed case of rape on the Meitei side.
On the other hand most of the dead on Kuki side were innocent civilians, including women, children, mentally disabled old women. Most of them died during the initial days of the violence, they were raped, tortured and lynched by mobs numbering thousands.

During the Vietnam War, the Viet Cong employed a variety of ingenious booby traps to defend their territories against the well armed US Army. Let's delve into some of these cunning and deadly devices they utilized:
1/ Punji Sticks:

Sharp, camouflaged stakes hidden in pits. Unsuspecting soldiers would fall onto these stakes, causing severe injuries and infections due to their dirty nature. An effective psychological weapon as well, instilling fear in troops. Image
2/ Grenade Traps:

Concealed tripwires connected to grenades. Triggered by movement, these traps aimed to surprise and injure soldiers. The element of surprise was crucial, often making soldiers anxious and disrupting their focus. Image

More than half of the Meiteis today are “New Meiteis” whose ancestors arrived from mainland India after 1800s making them even more recent immigrants than the so called “New Kuki” who are much older.

These “New Meiteis” are genetically different than the old Meiteis. Image
They are “Mayangs”or mainland Indians and have no genetic relation with the old Meiteis who are descendants of Pakhangba and the other valley tribes.

As for the term “New Kuki” you can find it first mentioned in The Gazetteer of Manipur (1886).
There is a debate about what it even actually means. These “New Kuki” are not recent immigrants. They are historically, culturally and genetically related to Kuki clans who settled in Manipur even before the so called old Meiteis arrived.

Nobody, I categorically mean nobody supports the Meities in their campaign of genocide against Kukis. On the other hand Kukis have received widespread support from all over the country.

I am posting few examples such comments from social media sites that show support for Kukis Image
