Many @APA members read "The National Psychologist" to stay informed about professional matters. Regrettably, this paragraph from a current front-page article—“Settlement sought in Hoffman Report suit”—is factually inaccurate on 2 key points... nationalpsychologist.com/2020/02/settle… 1/4
First, the EITs used by psychologists James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen, including waterboarding, were recognized as torture techniques by human rights experts and institutions LONG BEFORE they were employed by the #CIA at black sites. It is simply untrue to claim otherwise.

Second, James Mitchell WAS an @APA member during the time he was torturing #CIA prisoners. He resigned from #APA several years later, in 2006. This point is not open to debate. Nevertheless, the APA Ethics Office did NOT pursue an ethics complaint against him when it could.
