Read this if you don't want your KDP account gone with the wind because of AI content.
These threads will shed more light on AI usage so that you can stop having nightmares while awake.
Come closer, let's go.
I am writing this based on personal opinion and experience having adjusted to numerous changes that occurred on KDP over the years.
So what's the fuzz about the new update to how AI is being used on Amazon kindle platform.
I am going to break everything down in points.
1. Your account won't get shut down now because you published a book using AI in the past.
But here is the caviar; if it's a good book with correct help info, it will survive but if it's garbage content, wrong information or used trademarked ideas, then there might be trouble.
And this point is the same as what I have always talked about.
Creating a book with AI doesn't mean you should not fact check and make sure it's good information.
Just as when you write it yourself. It's still the same thing.
2. Be truthful with Amazon.
From now on, if you publish a book that is AI generated, you have to indicate and to what degree you used AI to come up with the book.
Either for your content, image, or translation.
What this translates to is don't lie to Amazon because if you do,
You'll get caught and that could jeopardize your account.
Here is my personal opinion; they are probably going to make adjustment to the books sales page on their website to make it known how the book is created.
Then their customers can make informed buying decision.
3. Amazon is doing this to collect real data on AI generated books and decide if they should allow it or not.
And they actually stated it clearly on their site saying;
"Amazon is collecting information about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in creating content."
Another update is coming and that will be the decision Amazon makes about AI generated books (image and content).
The update will let publishers know which direction Amazon goes when it comes to AI content.
Knowing how Amazon sides with their buyers over publishers,
The decision will be reached based on 2 factors.
Reviews and feedback from book buyers on books that Amazon know that are AI generated.
Amazon always takes the side of their customers.
4. Content rewriters are not AI generated content.
I know a lot of people are already peeing their pants because they use rewriters.
No need to be scared because any tool that paraphrase, rewrites or summarize are using synonyms, antonyms algorithm to rewrite.
Those types of tools cannot generate content by itself using a command or prompt.
So it's not AI generated or assisted content.
Put your mind to rest.
But like I always say, good content is king.
5. Understand the difference between what AI generated content and AI Assisted content is
Ai generated content can be described as content that was generated with prompt or command out of "thin air"
So tools like chatgpt or midjourney which create the content from scratch,
Those are AI content and you are expected to state that when uploading it.
To be honest, for now I don't think Amazon will ban your account if their content is useful and helps their customers genuinely except the rules changes.
Then you will need to adjust accordingly.
AI assisted content is content you create yourself but use tools to edit, refine, error-check, or otherwise improve that content.
Meaning if you copy an article on Google and paraphrase with AI, you are safe because no way for Amazon to prove the copied content isn't yours.
Meaning Amazon doesn't necessarily expect you to disclose it and you are safe.
If you used an AI-based tool to brainstorm, generate a table of contents and generate ideas, but create the text or images yourself, this is also considered "AI-assisted" and not “AI-generated.”
I hope this has cleared the air on everything related to AI content and allayed your fears.
