Texas Sex Offender Registry Analysis!

I downloaded the entire database (101,976 offenders) and can now easily query it to identify entries with incorrect Race/Ethnicity...

Here are the raw numbers so far:

With a simple query like this I can identify lots of "Hernandez's" incorrectly marked as "Non-Hispanic White"...

Here is a population vs. offenders chart with the incorrect data:

*Asians/AI/AN are the missing 1%

Accuracy: 89.48%! I need to go through all the false positives and manually verify each one to get in the mid 90% range...

Perusing through sex offender registries all over the country I've found THOUSANDS of Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, and even Blacks listed as "White", yet I've never seen the opposite... 🤔

Voila! Is anyone else surprised in the direction these numbers went? Still have a list of 2,590 false positives to go through, and I'll be exporting a spreadsheet with all the data/links as well...

I found a unicorn!

Hispanics booked as Non-Hispanic White: 11,541
Blacks booked as White: 92
Asians booked as White: 34
Whites booked as Black: 1

What you are seeing here is 1,157 "Non-Hispanic White" mugshots that my formula flagged as possibly incorrect...

Do you see any issues?

I'm currently double checking 5,000+ entries still listed as "Non-Hispanic White" today...
