I'd pay for a subscription if someone built this 1-person startup idea:
The Problem:

→ I build up a backlog of reading materials during the workdays and I'm only able to read them during my off-hours (on a plane, bedtime, etc)

→ Some are too difficult to read on mobile so I like them in physical print. Example of non-mobile, 2-column PDF: Image
Problem con't:

→ I frequently find myself building a bounded book that contains academic PDF's and website articles

→ I use my off-work hours to read them and I also find myself handing them out to colleagues

**Physically printing this is not necessary if mobile optimized.
So here's my current process:

→ When I come across an interesting read, I build up a backlog of urls through notepad/google sheets

→ Then about 1x per month I build a compilation of these reading materials into a bounded book.

And I've been doing this for 6 years 🫠
And here’s the steps I use:

1/ First, I move everything into PDF's

I take my backlog of urls and turn them into PDFs (google "website url's to PDFs"). PDF's are not great, e.g. pop-ups block the text.

For academic papers, I have to download the PDF as I usually have the url.
*As a supplement to the PDF papers, I also get a LLM based summary of the paper I use as a cover sheet.

(I impetuously save papers, so having a summary helps qualify)

I run these PDF's through a chatgpt4 optimized summarizer.

As an example, I use pdf2gpt(dot)com
2/ Next, I save all PDF's into a folder.

3/ I then combine all the PDF's together using a free online website (many of these online)

This creates one PDF of all the articles/papers listed sequentially by the file name.
4/ Finally, I then get this entire PDF printed, bound, and shipped to me.

I take this singular PDF and use an online service.

The site I've found to be reliable is printme1(dot)com

Today I ordered 285 pages of material for $24
The Solution needed:

→ I dump a collection of URLs & have this entire process done on the backend (or perhaps a bookmarking plugin)

Zero clicks. No effort.

→ Also, I shouldn't have to read all 285 pages (e.g. how can LLM help?).
I’ve tried some of the Apps for this, but they’re mostly good at bookmarking.

They are not helping me to consume the materials.

Also, with LLM’s there’s an ability to build a reading assistant to be thoughtful with my time.
Enhancements I wish I had:

→ Mobile Optimized Version

→ Audio Version: would be nice to listen to these while I driving.

→ What articles/papers are relevant I'm missing?

→ Ability to ask questions to a LLM that's reviewed these topics
Btw, this is a 1-person solopreneur business. No capital needed.

My problem? Personally consuming relevant content at scale.

If somebody can build this, I am first paying client.

The electric aircraft company I founded in 2018 raised $215M yesterday.

Investors include Boeing, Stellantis, United Airlines.

Posting the investor slide deck: Image
For Context:

5 years ago I founded Archer Aviation

We design and manufacture electric vertical takeoff & landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

These aircraft are 100% electric, take off like a helicopter (vertically), and fly forward like a traditional airplane.
Slide 1:

Nobody has addressed our traffic problems in 100 years.

And it's getting worse every day.

As we approach 2050, ~70% of the world's population will live in cities.

(This can be fixed if you use the z-axis and go vertical) Image

Every week I get asked my cheat codes to raising money.

Since I’ve raised $1B the last 10yrs, people expect I have secrets.

I don’t have secrets.

But I do have a playbook:
- You want a repeatable process -

Don’t bank on raising capital via referrals, networking, or events.

It’s impossible to predict & people don’t like sticking their necks out for referrals.

Instead, build a coin operating machine.

The goal: a process that can be repeated
I’ll even take this one step further:

If you’re process is centered around referrals, at some point you will fail.

It’s a bad strategy that might work for 1 fundraising round but can’t be repeated at scale.

10 years of my life was building software companies.

My last one sold for $100M.

I doubt I’ll ever return to pure-play software.

So here are my cheat codes:
Don’t build “the company”

Day 1: Do NOT go out and hire a bunch of people, spend money on logo/brand, purchase ads, or get long-term office space.

Your only goal is to be scrappy getting users, ship product, and find early signs of product market fit.
Keep the burn low

If you fail, it’s because you run out of money.

Lowering your burn means you have more time to iterate the product.

Do not spend money in the early days, be frugal as hell.

Figure in-housed all PR.

The last 10 years, I've done the $20k/mo engagement and was never satisfied.

→ In March, Figure emerged from stealth: 4 press articles.

→ Last week, Series A: 8 press articles.

Some notes: Image
The Figure process was led internally by Lee Randaccio - she crushed it:

→ Mapping all relevant journalists (targeted 50)

→ Aligning on Press Release + Assets

→ Interviews / Embargo's / PR Newswire Image
We had 2 TV interviews on Bloomberg and Yahoo.

Today a founder asked me:

→ “What’s your #1 lesson from scaling your last 3 companies?”

My response:

→ “CEO’s need to run product organizations.”

Here’s what that means:
Product Organizations are designed from the ground-up to ship useful product.

→ Team headcount is small & lean

→ The team efficiency is high = driving up speed

→ Company has a culture of internal demo’s
Product Organizations centralize product architecture decisions to a singular person.

→ As a byproduct, the new product roadmap has to be narrow & focused

→ Drives optimal “system design” (local trade-offs drive the best overall product)

*Airbnb recently adopted this.
