Today there's a debate in Holyrood where serious concerns about the impact of impending STL legislation will hopefully be addressed. #SaveSC
There's been a lot of claims from @PaulMcLennan7 which, quite frankly, do not fit with reality. In #Edinburgh, 7 S/C Units (secondary lets) have gained a licence. #SaveSC
My big concern is one of Scotland's key revenue-generating businesses is the hospitality sector which employs large numbers of Scottish operators & an ecosystem of support businesses. #SaveSC
Yet thousands are giving up as I write this and closing down in the face of the government's STL licensing legislation. Roughly 4 in 5 are yet to apply for a licence that makes them criminal in law after the 1st of October if they continue to trade. #SaveSC
Meantime, some councils are giving up city brownfield to a new generation of offshore-based investors (rather than affordable new homes). @Edinburgh_CC leased out for a pittance its former offices on the Royal Mile to convert to, in effect, upmarket S/C accommodation. #SaveSC
But because it's classed as aparthotels it's conveniently exempt from the legislation affecting every single Scottish short-stay accommodation operator, which includes guest houses and B&Bs. #SaveSC
This does not end well for #Scotland and, I fear, makes the Scottish administration look incompetent, yet again, in its management of the economy. #SaveSC
We are going in the wrong direction and my big concern is that once the damage is realised it will be extremely hard to unpick and resuscitate what has been lost. #SaveSC
In medicine, there's the adage that a doctor faced with an uncertain diagnosis should not do anything to make the patient any worse. #SaveSC
Right now we have a Scottish government that is using quack legislative remedies in the hope that it will actually improve things but is far more likely to kill the patient. #SaveSC

Let’s be clear. The public is being misled. @PaulMcLennan7 says that “No operator to date has been refused a licence.” This is *incorrect*. (1/16)
To even get to apply for a licence in many areas, like #Edinburgh, you need planning permission first. If planning is refused, you can’t apply for a licence. (2/16)
So, what are the facts? Let’s look at #Edinburgh where over 97% of planning applications have been refused since last October. That means almost ALL short term let hosts have been blocked from MAKING a licence application. (3/16)
