Before 2008 delimitation, Satara Lok Sabha included 6 assembly segments - Phaltan, Man, Khatav, Koregaon, Wai and Satara. After the 2008 delimitation, Phaltan is part of the Madha Lok Sabha. Man and Khatav were unified to form the Man assembly.

Man assembly is now part of Madha Lok Sabha. Karad North, Karad South and Patan were part of Karad Lok Sabha before 2008.

In 1957 Nana Patil of CPI won the elections. In 1962, Kisan Mahadev Veer of INC won. Yashwantrao Chavan won 1967, 1971 and 1977 in one-sided contests.

He won the 1977 elections by a margin of almost 2 lakh votes even though there was an anti-Congress wave. In 1980 Yashwantrao defeated Shalinitai Vasantdada Patil of INC(I) as a INC(U) candidate. Prataprao Bhosle won 1984,89 and 91 elections.

Hindurao Naik Nimbalkar won the 1996 elections as Shiv Sena Candidate. There was a triangular fight, the other two candidates were Prataprao Bhosale and Udayanraje Bhosale. In 1998, Abhyasinh Bhosale won on INC ticket. In 1999 and 2004, Laxmanrao Jadhav of NCP won.

He is the father of current Wai MLA Makrand Jadhav. Udayanraje won 2009 and 2014 elections for the NCP by very big margins.

Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections. Udayanarje's brother MLA Shivendrasinharaje Bhosale, Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar, MLA Makarand Patil, MLA Shashikant Shinde and Balasaheb Patil were against the candidature of Udayanraje.

However, Sharad Pawar ignored all the opposition and gave ticket to Udayanraje. Udayanraje took a lead in 4 segments which had NCP MLA - Wai, Karad North, Koregaon and Satara. Patil took a lead in Patan and a very narrow lead in Karad South.

Udyanraje Bhosale resigned as MP within months of the April 2019 general elections and as result there was a bypoll.

Udayanraje joined BJP and was announced as the candidate for NDA.
Bhosale had cited development imperatives of his constituency as the reason for switching sides.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had held a rally in Satara to campaign for Bhosale.

But in terms of optics, it was NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s last rally in Satara, when it rained heavily, which trumped. The visuals of 78-year-old Pawar soaked to the bone in pelting rain but not stopping his speech went viral on social media.

Turning the bypoll into a prestige battle, Pawar persuaded his friend since college days, NCP leader and former Sikkim governor Shriniwas Patil, to jump into the fray against the royal family’s scion. Patil was the officer of Indian Administrative Services of 1979 batch.

Thereafter he served as the collector of Beed district and Pune district. He was elected as member of the 13th and 14th Lok Sabha of India, from 1999 to 2009 representing the Karad constituency from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

In the 2019 Assembly elections BJP won 1 segment - Satara whereas SHS won two segments - Patan and Koregaon. NCP won 2 segments - Karad North and Wai. Prithviraj Chavan(INC) won Karad South.

We can see that the same voting pattern was there for bypoll and Vidhan Sabha.

NCP Sharad Pawar will fight this seat from MVA and Shashikant Shinde or son of Shriniwas Patil might be the candidate. Which party will fight this seat from NDA and who will be the candidate?
