How To Land Your First DevRel Role

The Plan:

1. Do a thorough research on the company/protocol.
2. Learn about the founders.
3. Use the product to learn how it works—Read the docs.
4. Create a developer relations strategy document for the company.

How I executed the plan:

Company/Protocol: @BlockCypher

Step 1: Research

In simple terms, @BlockCypher is the Amazon Web Services(AWS) of web3. They provide the infrastructure fabric to help you build your block applications via their API.

Step 2: Use the Product/Read Docs

I read the blockcypher docs and checked out the endpoints for APIs currently available(Bitcoin and Ethereum for now.)

Created a demo with @BlockCypher Ethereum API: warm-dusk-21bab9.netlify.app

Step 3: Create a DevRel strategy.

Using the AAARRRP() framework, I have identified opportunities DevRel activities will improve @BlockCypher Developer Experience(DX).leggetter.co.uk/aaarrrp/

I came up with 3 main DevRel goals for @BlockCypher

1. Awareness: People need to know the product exists and what it does.

2. Activation: Make the product easier to use for new users, e.g. making the first API call.

3. Product: How to get feedback and input from product.

Activities that will aid the achievement of each goal:

🥑 Docs/Tutorials: Good documentation will simultaneously improve Awareness(good docs is good marketing), Activation(onboard new users), Product(docs is product).

How I will improve the docs:

• Write a move comprehensive getting started guide
• Improve Docs navigation
• Provide more code samples

I will write technical tutorials on how to use the product. This will help users understand the product better and also aide the docs.

🥑 Events/Hackathons: Hackathons, in particular, help generate feedback for the product and are a way to evangelize the product.

How I will do events/hackathons:
• Speak at events about the company
• Organize hackathons via developer-focused platforms e.g @hashnode
