I am sorry I can’t respond to students asking to meet to about their research plans before applying to grad school. I used to do this, but it’s not sustainable- so here’s some advice.
Understand that in most depts (from my experience) selections are made by an admissions committee where most POC faculty are not consulted so don’t ask us if we’re “taking students”-write to chairs and graduate directors instead.
Focus on your research statement & make links w as many dept faculty research interests as possible, even if you don’t see a connection, this can make a difference to whoever sees application that you’re a good fit.
Apply to as many programs that fit your research interests & attend the place that offers you the best financial package. If rejected: reapply. if you’ve decided a PhD is essential to your goals rejections are simply part of the process. The end.
