The CRIMINAL Story of Elias Kiriithi Gichuki aka Sniper
Gangster who killed local chief who forcing CS Matiang'i & Police IG Boinnet to visit Nyeri.
THREAD:
Sniper was born in 1990 at Kamakwa in the hilly town of Kamakwa in Tetu-outskirts of Nyeri Town.
As young man he'd grow up hearing tales of legendary robbers like Wanugu & Wacucu who also hailed from the small hilly town.
These tales would later inspire him to try out his hand in the criminal world after school.
Since he couldn't do it in his home village he decided to move to Nyeri Town
& rented a small house at Majengo Slums a hideout place for criminals.
He engaged in petty crimes in Nyeri town until around 2015 when he met one Paul Thuita.
Paul was a seasoned criminal who'd usher him into the Big League by convincing him to join them in their first Robbery at Malewa Bush Ventures Gilgil Naivasha.
To convince him that it was a sure bet, Paul told him that his hometown mate Samuel Gichuki ,a Kikuyu Gospel artist stage named Sammyboy was also in on the deal
He was convinced b/c I mean wameombewa na gospel artist.
Aug 6 2015 at 8pm the goons broke into the home of Malewa Ventures Director Christine Mary Campbell a British Investor.
Armed with an AK47 rifle & matchetes they captured everyone in the house and tied them up i.e Her husband Campbell, mom, 2 visiting pals & 3 workers.
Totally unbothered, the robbers didn't cover their faces while they ransacked the whole house for valuables.
In the 6hr siege they took phones, tablets, laptops, jewellery, electronics & money in diff currencies from the victims taunting them that they were alshabaab.
Later they put the stolen loot in Christine's Prado & bungled the victims in the boot of her husband's Prado & then drove off to Lunga Lunga
2hrs later they stopped on the road, shot the tyres of the Prado with the victims & drove off with the loot to Nrb in the other Prado
The victims later reported to the Nearest Police Station and the Gilgil Sleuths went on a manhunt for the gangsters who had driven off to Nairobi
2 days later, Detectives trailed the stolen items in Kinoo stashed in a bluevan. The bluevan had been hired by Sammyboy claiming he wanted to travel to Nyeri from Sammy Irungu a car dealer in Kinoo.
Sammyboy was arrested & taken to Gilgil.
Days later they were all captured and presented in court. They were later moved to Naivasha Remand prison waiting for their bond which was set at Ksh 1.2m
Coming from a humble family, Sniper stayed in Remand Prison for almost 2 years as he waited for his fam to raise the Ksh.1.2m.
Here he'd meet other hardened criminals who sharpened his skills until when he was released on bond early in 2017 & moved back to Majengo Slums.
On Jun 16 2017 he resorted back to his ways. Sniper together with an accomplice robbed an MPESA shop at Mudavadi Market in Nyeri town.
However his friend was shot as they escaped to the Majengo slum which is adjacent to the market.
Sniper was lucky.
Having escaped the near death ordeal, Sniper laid low. Gladly his identity was unknown but now he knew he needed to change location.
He moved his missions back home Kamakwa a place he knew.
While underwater in Majengo Sniper formed his crew who they'd now work in cahoots with rogue police officers to stage robberies in the suburbs of Nyeri.
All these he learnt while in Remand. In 2018 the reign of terror began at Kamakwa
Here they'd attack and steal from innocent Kenyans. The robberies became rampant until one day in Feb 20,2018 locals fed up by non action of police lynched two of his mates who were corned trying to steal from a lady at 5AM.
However as if using juju Sniper managed to escape again. However his identity was now slowly being revealed since police were now saying that someone was bringing the thugs to Kamakwa.
That someone was non other than Elias Kiriithi aka Sniper.
Angry about the death of his mates Sniper now decided it's time he owned a gun. He purchased one & two weeks later in March he staged a retaliatory attack.
He shot dead 2 civilians who took part in the lynching of his crew members. This was a message to the people.
After the attack he now preferred carjackings. According to him they were safer.
In the month of April he went on a carjackings rampage with his crew until 28th April when a civilian posted the scary ordeal on his FB page.
This revelation aroused social media outcry by Nyeri residents who claimed police inaction opening the lid of possibility of cops working with the carjackers since no arrests were being made.
On 1st May 2018, 3 rogue police officers were transferred.
This however did not scare Sniper and his team who changed targets from cars & once again in a brazen 3PM attack pulled up inna nduthi with his AK47 at AIPCA church office in Nyeri & robbed off Ksh 1M on Tuesday 3rd July 2018.
The money was Sunday offertory
Having escaped & tasted a million Sniper went berzerk. 2 days on 6th July 2018, they attacked Nyeri businesseman Simon Kahihia at his Golden Classic Butchery hoping they'd make away with his days proceedings.
However it wasn't the case & they shot him dead.
This was a sad tragedy which made the sleuths increase investigation. Their Intel told them that the suspects hailed from Kamakwa & that is when they started to engage the area chief Peter Kimiti to help reveal identity of suspects.
However this would lead to the murder of Chief Peter Kimiti on July 26 2018 where he was shot dead at 6PM in his maize plantation farm at his home in Kamakwa after meeting security officials during the day.
The thugs shot him 10x armed with their 2 AK47s & escaped inna nduthi.
This murder caught the attention of top security officials.
On Aug 1 2018, CS Matiang'i & IG Boinnet visited the family to condole with them & promised bring the killers to book
On Aug 3 2018, the officers ran a msako at Majengo Slums in a bid to flash out the thugs.
One was neutralized but Sniper & others managed to escape to another unknown hideout.
On Aug 21st they'd emerge at Speaker John Kagucia's home where they'd targeted them for a robbery but missed the now Mukurweini MP &his family who had travelled to Nairobi for a planned Inooro TV interview the next morning.
Having missed the Legislator, they went into hiding. 3 of them moved to hide at Kanyagia near Mweiga
Here they'd pose as farm boys but they'd be ambushed on 5th Sep 2018 & killed after locals suspected them.
An AK47 rifle with 9 bullets used in Chiefs murder was recovered.
The death of his accomplices pushed Sniper deep into hiding. With his whereabouts unknown police turned their focus on other robbers asking them to surrender.
Fearful of their lives, 2 of them surrendered on Oct 22 2018 to assist investigation.
Githinji aka Mrefu & Kangethe.
This surrendering infuriated Sniper. This was betrayal so he planned the death of Mrefu by sending men to pick him up at his shop posing as cops seeking help inna case &strangled him, stuffed him in a sack & threw his body at Karia Dam which was discovered on Nov 30 2018.
Mrefe was mourned by his wife who couldn't understand how his body was found in the dam after being told police picked Mrefu at his shop.
This was a PSA to anyone who'd try to snitch on him like the chief & his friend that they'd be promoted to glory if they did.
In 2018, He'd go on a rampage b4 being finally being neutralized on 11th Oct 2019.
Kesho tunamaliza venye sleuths used his girl to track him.
