-Gregory- THE Gregory Defense Thread (1/600) 🧵

@threadreaderapp
These personality traits are important as it leads me to a point that may seem weak at first, but is strong when we connect it to Gregory’s actions in SB. (541/600)
The truth is, it simply would not make sense for Gregory to drop the elevator because that is not the type of kid he is, not the type of PERSON he is. (542/600) Image
Yes, we do have a motive. There is a reasonable explanation as to why someone would not want Cassie to return to the surface. No one wants to let the murderous robot out or let a individual infected with its virus free. (543/600)
However, this motive is NOT strong enough to support GREGORY dropping the elevator. I’ll give an example for this as I’ve noticed this distinction is not discussed much when it should be. (544/600)
For this example, I have one person who loves vanilla icecream but another who hates all icecream in general. I tell both that I’ll give them money to go across the street to get themselves some icecream at icecream truck (545/600) Image
While there is a motive for both individuals to go across the street to get icecream, the individual who hates icecream likely will deny the offer given that no other circumstances hinders their judgement. (546/600) Image
We are met with a similar situation when we talk about Gregory possibly dropping the elevator. His actions simply don’t line up when compared with SB. (547/600)
Following the canon ending, we know that, despite the danger, Gregory went back into the pizzaplex to save Vanessa. He didn’t care that she was infected, he didn’t care that the mimic was free, all he wanted was to save her. (548/600) Image
He could have left, he could have escaped. He had a new guardian to take care of him (Freddy) and, given he suffers from amnesia, he had no other obligation to go back (549/600) Image
Yet, he returns to help this unknown women whom he does not remember, implying that Gregory seems to have a natural instinct to save people even when it puts him in perils way. (550/600)
This means that Gregory would not have cared if Cassie was infected by the mimic, he would not have cared if saving Cassie set the mimic free, he would not have cared because saving people matters more than his own safety. (551/600)
In his eyes, if he has any semblance of memory during his time as GGY, saving Cassie would be a do over. A way to redeem himself as she was the one friend HE COULD save, the one friend that WASN’T taken away from him. (552/600) Image
Thats why, the motive of the mimic escaping or Cassie becoming the next Vanny simply wouldn’t work for his character. It would contradict the kind, wonderful, and caring child we know, because, deep down, Gregory cares more for others than himself. (553/600)
This would also mean that their first interaction in the cave wouldn’t make sense. If we assume that Gregory was going to kill Cassie the entire time, why would he bother leading her to the elevator. (554/600)
From the mimic’s jumpscare, we can deduce that the mimic was planning on killing Cassie. It’s a violent attack but quick with Cassie’s arms being ripped off and then her head slammed against the ground. (555/600)
There would be no point in Gregory going out of his way to prevent this if he was planning on doing the exact same thing. Even if we claim that Gregory was sparing her from the violence, dying is one thing, but dying due to a betrayal is another. (556/600)
It would be less tragic, less agonizing, and less heartbreaking to die to the mimic than it would be to die because of your best friend. It offers no comfort and no love, only a terrible end. (557/600)
Leading Cassie to the elevator would have been pointless suffering that we know Gregory has no interest in. Truth is, Gregory had EVERY intention of saving her, but he was cut off, resulting in her fall. (558/600) Image
Additionally, the mimic had already copied another person before this. There is reliable evidence to suggest that the “Cassie” we hear in the end credits scene is actually the mimic. (559/600)
The voice line used in the credits is actually the first voice line used in the “kill Roxy” scene, when Roxy welcomes Cassie back. During the fight between the mimic and Roxy, you can turn off voices to hear what happens. (560/600)
What occurs is the mimic and Roxy fighting and Roxy quickly realizing he’s way out of her league and she calls for help. This is followed by a loud bang and a series of glitchy Roxy lines. (561/600) Image
The mimic at this moment seems to be shifting through all her lines she said in SB in a distorted series, ending it off with an “I’m awesome” (562/600)
This would explain why we hear Roxy beckon to Cassie after the elevator drop, the mimic is mimicking her too. (563/600)
It’s a pattern that will likely repeat in the series as we have trouble figuring out what’s the truth, however I believe that ruin made it quite obvious Gregory wasn’t responsible for the elevator. (564/600)
I’d like to conclude this section with the piece of evidence that has been beat to death over and over again but is so strong I can’t just not include it. (565/600)
Before the “it’s not your fault” line and the tone shift, there is a subtle glitch in the audio of the speaker. You might have not noticed it on your first play-through but when it’s pointed out, it’s so glaringly obvious you can’t miss it. (566/600)
Now I’ve mentioned before in this thread ,that at the time of the glitch, Gregory seemed like he was going to continue talking about MXES, however “he” randomly changes subjects after it. (567/600)
Instead, he starts comforting Cassie, something that the mimic would do in order to manipulate her further. Which is why, Gregory after the speaker glitch isn’t Gregory, it’s the mimic. (568/600)
(Here’s another thing that I actually complete forgot to include but will bust it out right now. Due to the relationship between Gregory and the Mimic, the mimic actually DOES have a motive to “trick Cassie).
(That’s because he’s not tricking CASSIE, he’s tricking GREGORY. His original plan was to kill Cassie and then pursue Gregory, however, since Gregory is trying to save Cassie, why not make the boy come to him.)
(The mimic WANTS GREGORY, he makes that very clear in GGY and through his relationship with David. Anyone who can further TM in that goal, he will use. One Gregory realizes Cassie never came back up, TM hopes he’ll go down to find her.)
Additionally, we can even get crazy and go as far to say that the Gregory in the elevator wasn’t Gregory at all. Gregory states when referring to the mimic that “that thing has been down here a really long time” (569/600) Image
His use of the word “here” is strange as Greg stated before that he isn’t in the pizzaplex. The correct term would be “there” because he physically ISN’T here. (570/600)
Regardless if you think that Gregory spoke through the elevator briefly or didn’t speak at all, the conclusion we are meant to leave with is the same. Gregory did not drop the elevator. (571/600)
CONCLUSION: (572/600)
I’m tempted to simply state that Gregory negs your faves and leave it at that, but I must contain myself, as toxicity clouds education. (573/600)
While it is true that Gregory is undeniably the most wonderful, magnificent, marvelous, delightful, heavenly, amazing, sparkling, bodacious, brilliant, gift of god I know, not everyone can appreciate him. (574/600)
You, however, have shown immense strength, immense courage, by traveling through this thread. Words cannot express my appreciation for your patience. (575/600)
We live on a land that does not care for us. Layers of mischaracterizations haunt my young boy for no reason other than hate and grudge. (576/600)
Hence, I can no longer remain indifferent. I do not mind standing alone if I am standing for him, and I encourage you to feel the same. I will be Gregory’s physically body shield against the haters, and hopefully, so will you. (577/600)
This thread is a collection, a collection of the Gregory fandom’s efforts to clear this innocent boy’s name. A combination of our blood, sweat and tears for the G.O.A.T.. No longer will we submit to fools, as, together, we read allat (578/600)
COUNTER CLAIMS: (579/600)
“In the code, the mimic copying Gregory is classified as Grimic and is referred to as such throughout the game, when Gregory speaks in the elevator, he isn’t classified as Grimic, and is simply named Gregory. That means he dropped the elevator.” (580/600)
This is one of the most popular counter claims I have come across and, at its surface, it seems quite reasonable, however, there is plenty of evidence to debunk the canonicity of the code. (581/600)
The code has previously stated that the Burntrap ending is canon, which we know now from Ruin, is false. The code also named the “princess” in princess quest Cassidy, when her story seems to imply they meant Cassie. (582/600) Image
Code is not meant to be seen, and cannot be used as a reliable story info. Steelwool has more than enough experience with people ripping through their code post SB, they would obviously prepare for people to analyze it. (583/600)
That’s why, I fail to see them putting spoilers in the code when a majority of the play base can’t access it (console players). (584/600)
Additionally, if you want to talk code, there is an unused line for Gregory in the elevator. Instead of dropping Cassie, he simply tells her to “make sure it doesn’t follow you” (585/600) Image
It would not make sense for this line to exist consider Steelwool obviously would avoid making major changes to the story last minute. It’s like they were trying to tell us Gregory was innocent without directly stating it. (586/600)
That extra line is what the real Gregory likely said. Perhaps he never even realized he was cut off. (587/600)
“It’s unfair you didn’t cover the Chica death based on evidence that isn’t confirmed” (588/600)
You’re absolutely right, which is why I will briefly cover it. The reason I didn’t want to is because, like Roxy and Monty, Freddy indirectly tells Gregory to kill her. (589/600) Image
(Sowwy for bad picture, I hunted for this line for a while and couldn’t find it on the wiki)
Sure, Gregory does willingly set a trap that is obviously going to hurt her, however, Chica was the most antagonistic animatronic out of them all. She was in virtually EVERY SINGLE SECTION. (590/600) Image
Not to mention she still continues to attack Gregory instead of moving out of the way for safety. It’s sorta like a play stupid games win stupid prices situation. I’m not gonna feel bad for her cause Gregory kicked her, sorry Chica truthers. (591/600) Image
“This wasn’t a Gregory defense thread, it was a Freddy hate thread” (592/600) Image
The reason Gregory needs a defense thread in the first place is because Freddy truthers are convinced that their hobo is an innocent little smol bean and Gregory’s a gremlin. (593/600)
It’s this dynamic that led to pre-ruin Gregory hate, hence why I need to address a lot of the misconceptions that surround Freddy’s character. (594/600)
I love Freddy, but I love him because he’s a psychopath, not whatever y’all got in your heads. (595/600)
“Greg’s a bit ugly tho.” (596/600) Image
Remember when you’re being mean to him, this is who you’re being mean to. (597/600) Image
“Nah this is an entire yapathon.”/ “I ain’t reading allat” (598/600)
Mfs that use the word yap when I call their moms funeral a yapping session (599/600)
Thank you for reading about peak everyone. Words can’t express how fun this was. 🙏🙏🙏600/600
CORRECTIONS/ADDITIONS ON THE THREAD:
I learned today that the “shadow Bonnie Easter egg” was a edit made in markiplers video. It is unfortunately not canon. Please ignore it
Additionally, while I was writing this, someone informed me that the camera in the elevator is the only camera to shine with orange light, similar to the mimic Image
Fun facts for nerds:
This thread is over 21,000 words (equivalent to a college thesis, and has an estimated 80 minute read time. It took around a month and a half to write and 6 hours to post
Having trouble converting this into a document so if anyone wants to do that for me I would greatly appreciate it. A lot of people were asking
