With over 99% votes officially counted, the situation is clear. Poland begins turning back towards European values.
Do you know what will be the most memorable moment of that day for me? (1)
🧵
It will be this short clip of Kaczyński turning up to the polling station to vote. He had to mix with the pleb, which he virtually never does, which was humiliating enough for him. He barged in with his bodyguards and expected to be served straight away but not this time... (2)
But people did not shouted at him. They did not abused them or called him names. Nobody spat at him. No, with a simple gesture he was told by some young guy just to go and stand at the end of the queue like everyone else. (3)
If people reacted with aggression, he would just come out with his usual smirky smile. "Słychać wycie? Znakomicie" ("They are howling? Great") is the approach to which PiS was going through the world.
(4)
But there was no howling. It was something worse. Those regular, everyday Poles, he was always so afraid, that he was hiding from them behind rows of riot police and by travelling in a limo with tilted window gave him a simple message:
(5)
"You have right to vote. We have democracy, despite your attempts to take it away from us, everyone can stillvote. But you have to queue like everyone, because you are not better than us". That was the message.
if we he realises his world is ending, it had to be this moment. (6)
No tirades of his political opponents in the parliament. No intellectualized essays in the press. No malicious memes, snarky tweets, and mocking Facebook entries. No happenings of @lotnabrygada and protests of @ObywateleRP. No "Jebać PiS" graffitied all over Polish walls. (7)
But this moment, when he saw that scorn smile of a random girl, looking with disdain at this old, lost and helpless guy, who just days ago ordered everyone around, put his tail between his legs and clumsily tried to find the end of the queue to stand there and feel humilated. (8)
I want you this to be for you the Kaczyński you remember. Because that's who he really is:
A grumpy, old man, incapable to survive in the real world and afraid people, who has no life and spends his time in some dark den, plotting some political games, who briefly got lucky.(9)

So what is the deal with the beef between Poland and Ukraine?
1. Polish government failed to organise transit of Ukrainian grain. Either because they are bunch of incompetent fools, or because some of their cronies realised that they can make a huge money selling this grain...
...in Poland instead of exporting it further as it was the original intention.
2. The grain flooded Polish market, bringing prices down and farmers got understandably pissed, which is not good in the election year.
3. To recover from this fiasco, Government banned import...
...of Ukrainian foods altogether and started conflict with the UE, as they build their campaign on telling people UE wants to impose their will on Poland against interests of Poles.
4. They try to mount the coalition of the countries bordering Ukraine to block the imports...
Imagine, you are living in a delapitated shithole in a falling-apart wooden building that was deemed unsafe for habitation a generation ago and you still believe it's all because the West is envious of what Russia has:
(you can translate subtitles)
They say here, one year of Ukrainian invasion costed Russia 3 times more than it needed to solve the housing problem by providing emergency housing to everyone in Russia who needs it.
How is that people can't add 2 and 2 together and realize that every rocket Russia sends to...
...Ukraine costs enough to build a new block of flats for them and their neighbours is beyond me.
Those, who are surprised to see @pontifex siding with Putin remember that this is not a new thing.
It's a little remembered fact but on 1st of September 1939 Poland was invaded not only by Nazi Germany but also by Slovakia. Slovakia occupied small parts of Spisz and Orawa 1/x
- respectably East and West of Nowy Targ.
While this was not really a significant historical event, it was part of the activities of the First Slovak Republic, a puppet Nazi state. Why I am writing about it in the Pope's context you might ask? 2/x
Because it's leader - first a prime minister and then its president was one Jozef Tiso - a Catholic priest (pictured on the right).
He was a total Nazi who persecuted Jews, sabotaged anti-Nazi resistance, submitted his country to Hitler and so on. Terrible guy. 3/x
I looked into comments under article about Operation Brain that says trucks are being stacked on M20 to prevent tourists from being stacked in the queue. The article is in the Polish portal about road transport that is largely read by drivers and other people from the industry 🧵
"they should introduce 'operation brain' - for themselves".
"Are they out of their minds?"
"Let those tourists bring the goods back themselves on the way back, this is not the way to treat people who deliver goods to them"
"It wasn't that bad, I waited 25 min to enter port...
...and I am on the ferry already".
"I was through it once, it's a disaster".
And here my personal favourite:
"Those who drive [trucks] to the UK no longer find circus funny".
(all prices at this job board are given in either euro or polish złoty)
The lowest offer for Ireland I found so far starts from €2450. And it's in some small town so I guess much cheaper.lovong than in London (most of offers for England are for London areas).
Hospital nurse in Germany starts from €5500 there. Care home nurse from €2700.
A guy drove into my car at New Gorbals in Glasgow. We were just heading home as my then partner was preparing to fly to Poland. Car was drivable still, but had no lights, no rear window and the bent metal was scratching my wheel.

A friend lend me his car and I drove her to the ariport, then dropped a car off at his place and went for my night shift run to Inverness. I developed a terrible pain in my leg and my back, I barely made it back. On return I went to A&E. 2/
