Trump should have business cards printed: Deceit, Trickery, and Dishonesty Social.
DOJ argues that Trump's bully pulpit means his was not just one voice among millions, as he himself bragged about -- but in any case, it's a matter for trial.
On the same day Trump is testifying about whether his fraud at Trump Org mattered, DOJ included this line in his DC case.
I hope someone with interns is keeping a running tally of how many times Haldeman gets cited in this case.
The Conspiracy to Defraud section is, unsurprisingly, heavy on fake electors. Here, Jeffrey Clark gets glancing mention.
Shorter DOJ: Sure. If you want us to ALSO charge you with false statements, we can do that too.
DOJ making good use of the pain sweat and tears that got them to Fischer.
Been waiting since at least August 2021 to see how DOJ would argue this.
And now making good use of the pain sweat and tears to get to Robertson.
Florence Pan in the house...
I feel like this was the subject of weeks of discussion. And Trump just teed it up for them.
The definition of corruptly for 1512 is still very much a work in progress (but, I've argued, all foreseeable definitions apply to Trump). Which is why this passage is written this way.
Really legalistic way of saying it's illegal (under the Klan Act) to steal other people's right to vote.
Interesting cake-eating-too move here, to address that some of Trump's actions were committed as President.
Lots of Cheap Dates have been making a 1A argument since this indictment. This is how DOJ dealt with it, unsurprisingly.
Honestly, I may develop a hobby of laughing at the way DOJ and legal commentators make fun of John Lauro for his misuse of citations.
Holy shit! Dead-Prigozhin's trolls even made it in here.
Get used to seeing this passage. Lauro is making a bid, in this and 2 other motions, for Alito and Thomas to treat this as right wing speech. This is how DOJ will address it over and over.
This goes to the core of every legal case against Trump.
Mackey, which will be appealed but bc Mackey is not a former President, may not get there first, gets a shout out.
This is where DOJ compares Trump's historical analogies, starting with 1800, begins, for the historians in the crowd.
Much of Grassley's complaint is that the FBI didn't violate FBI rules on investigations.
Note, the now-debunked Gary Shapley, whose own claims are consistent with him sharing info w/Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, ALSO wanted Congress to blow his case.
Here, Grassley tries to spin information that has been debunked: that Tim Thibault shut down Peter Schweizer, someone even less credible than Christopher Steele, in PART bc it'd make prosecution more difficult.
Increasingly cognizant what a stressful week last week was for Trump. Sure, Sidney Powell (and less seriously Ken Chesebro flipped. But he was also working on these largely dogshit MTDs on Jan6 case, assessing his fate. And he would have learned WHAT docs DOJ caught him stealing.
PLUS, Forbes credibly accused Allen Weisselberg lied on the stand, setting up a possibility that cover-up will begin to collapse.
No wonder Trump can't keep his favorite dictators straight!
Again, I think people who think they're cleverly fact-checking Trump about whether Sidney Powell was REALLY his attorney are missing a whole slew of things, both about the indictment and the facts.
First, denying she was his attorney doesn't neutralize the allegation that he pushed her claims even after he claimed she was crazy. Nothing about that relies on privilege.
More importantly: LOOK WHAT HE SAID. He said there would be a conflict and suggests it's bc she represented Mike Flynn.
Even in real time, the timing of his pardon and Trump's claims were an obvious problem. The single solitary overt act in the indictment makes it far worse.
Because the rabbit hole that is debunking right wing BS about the "Hunter Biden" "laptop" never ends, I've just realized that Judge Doughty sourced his claim that FBI knew "laptop" not RU disinfo to Miranda Devine propaganda. documentcloud.org/documents/2407…
There's a GREAT DEAL that the cited Devine propaganda gets wrong. Including the basis for her claim that FBI knew it wasn't RU disinformation, which is that FBI was "spying on" Rudy w/surveillance warrant. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…
DOJ is known to have obtained Rudy's emails with November 2019 warrants -- before either the FBI or Rudy even had the "laptop." They seized his devices in April 2021, 6 months AFTER the NYPost story.
Plus, even then, many of Rudy's devices were corrupted, so unusuable.
Since Fani Willis responded, for a second time, to Jim Jordan's attempt to obstruct her prosecution of Trump and his co-conspirators on October 11, Jordan has lost 3 votes to be Speaker and Willis has flipped 2 Trump lawyers.
"As the person chosen by the citizens of Fulton County to be their District Attorney, I serve them, and my team and I are exceptionally busy," Willis told Jordan before she flipped 2 more of Trump's 18 co-defendants.
As I keep noting, on the day that Jordan first rolled out his attempt to obstruct Willis' prosecution in August, Willis got a death threat taunting, "JIM IS COMING FOR YOU," threatening to, "BURN YOUR CITY TO THE GROUND WITH YOU IN IT."
2) When Hannity says he's covering Hunter Biden's dick pics, he means Bill Barr narrowly saved him from getting on a plane to meet Dmitry Firtash where, it was expected, they would get a "laptop." 3) He'd also like to remind you that EVEN he found "the laptop" too dodgy to report
4) When Hannity claims to be a "journalist," he means he wrote panicked texts to Mark Meadows about "losing the WH counsel."
