🏥After administering thousands of vaccines over the past few years, we've made the tough decision to conclude our vaccine season, & possibly for all future seasons for publicly funded vaccines.
The vaccine rollout this year has been the worst we've experienced, raising questions about how the ministry of health operates. @ONThealth
What made this year exceptional was the ministry's decision to appoint Shoppers Drug Mart as the sole distributors of publicly funded vaccines for Pharmasave.
It meant asking Shoppers Drug Mart, who typically deliver solely to their own pharmacies, to handle distribution to us (their competitor). A task they were understandably, not prepared for.
To no one's surprise, they've been delivering samplings of the quantities we ordered in massive containers without shipping labels. Sometimes these massive shipping containers would arrive empty.
This logistical nightmare has resulted in wasted time and resources as we're expected to ship these back to their distribution centers, and without shipping labels, the boxes have been piling up.
💔 Over the past several years, Lawlor Pharmacy has saved countless lives through our vaccination efforts. However, with a distribution plan that resembles sabotage, we simply cannot provide this service while safely dispensing medications.
🙏 After we complete our current supply, we'll have to take a step back. It's not manageable to be bombarded by requests for vaccines, with the government providing no supply, and sometimes facing abuse from walk-ins.
Patients will suffer, and it didn't have to be this way.
👨⚕️ We want to thank all our patients and supporters for trusting us with their healthcare needs over the years. It's been an honor to serve our community, and we hope for better days ahead.

It’s a lesson that I taught many of my students. Even though your patient may seem frail, unaware, and at times difficult, never belittle or patronize them. Because behind the medical condition is a person with a story.
I tell them about Mr. M, a man I treated early on in my career. He was in his late 80’s, had a heavy British accent, and I would have to repeat myself 6 or 7 times so he could understand me. Not long after our first few interactions, he was diagnosed with dementia.
As hard as I tried, and I'm ashamed of this, part of me belittled him.
One day while waiting for his meds, two Brazilian ladies walked in the pharmacy and began speaking to each other in Portuguese. Suddenly, I noticed Mr. M’s eyes opened wide and his facial expressions changed.
I performed this test on a child with autism in front of the pharmacy today. His mother wanted him tested because "he had a cold". This child has COVID. This child could have infected his whole class had his mother not PAID for this test.
This child could have caused his school to shut down, infections leading to hospitalizations, or worse. #rapidtests cost around $1 when purchased in bulk, they can save countless lives, and prevent school and business shut downs. We've known this for over a year.
To every decision maker in government that is standing in the way of providing these tests for free to Canadians, I want you to read this carefully: your action/ inaction will cost lives
A young lady, double vaccinated and completely asymptomatic, drops by the pharmacy for a rapid test. She explained that she has to look after an immunocompromised relative so she wanted to do the test as an added precaution. I completed the test and got this:
I advised her to get a confirmatory PCR and to isolate immediately.
But this situation made me question a lot of things.
What if this is a true positive? (Highly likely)
What if she never got tested and infected her relative?
Why the hell does she have to pay for the test?
Rapid tests have been around for over a year, why did they just get approval a few months ago?
Why aren't these tests being widely distributed by @ONThealth ?
Scientists like @michaelmina_lab have been howling about this for over a year and we're still not getting it!
