[Thread on the question of Hamas] Two things that require some consideration. 1. The demand by the warmongers that people who call for the ceasefire must condemn Hamas. 2. The strange framework adopted by the media that this is an Israel-Hamas war. Image
[Pictures in this thread are by Majd Arandas (1994-2023), a brave Palestinian photographer who captured everyday life in Gaza, where he was born in the Nuseirat refugee camp. Such gentleness destroyed by this ugly Israeli war] Image
Hamas was formed in 1987. The Naqba (Catastrophe) of the Palestinians took place in 1948. For 39 years, the Palestinians struggled for an end to the Permanent Naqba, for their land & for justice. Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement) is only one flank of the Palestinian resistance. Image
For 75 years, Palestinians – through a range of means – have struggled to get their voice for justice heard. When they have used armed struggle, they've been criticised; when they've used non-violent struggle, they've been criticised. Image
Form of struggle is not the issue for their critics: the real issue is that they struggle. Condemnation of Hamas is not what is demanded. What is demanded is a condemnation of the Palestinian struggle, which is not by itself coterminous with Hamas but in which Hamas is a part. Image
There's simply no condemnation of Hamas that is not at the same time a condemnation of the Palestinian resistance. Image
It's been convenient for those who are against Palestinian emancipation to reduce the entire tradition of struggle to Hamas, to demonise Hamas, & then to effectively demonise the Palestinian resistance movement. Image
The @IDF and the Israeli settlers have been killing and evicting Palestinians in the West Bank, where Hamas has minimal organization: but that violence in the West Bank, the permanent Naqba, is conducted now in the name of fighting ‘Hamas’. Image
@IDF This is not an Israeli war on Hamas, but it is an Israeli war on the Palestinian resistance and on Palestinians in total. The dead are not Hamas, but they are killed in the name of an Israeli campaign to obliterate ‘Hamas’, which is the obliteration of the Palestinian people. Image
@IDF The bulldozers in northern Gaza are not to dig for the tunnels but to destroy Palestinian homes and make way for their expulsion. Image
@IDF 8 years ago, I wrote, ‘Israeli occupation is a failure’ (). I meant that it cannot succeed in the completion of the Permanent Naqba. It will always produce Palestinian resistance. newarab.com/opinion/occupa…
Image
@IDF You can yell ‘Hamas, Hamas’ as much as you want, but that scare tactic will no longer work. After the 2014 bombing of Gaza, I wrote this poem, called ‘What You Bomb’ (). counterpunch.org/2014/07/22/wha…
Image
@IDF The poem ends ends with this line:
‘What you bomb is not Hamas. It is Palestine. Not a dream, but a people. Not a refugee camp, but a country alive in its peoples’ hearts’. Image

[thread] Dear @IntlCrimCourt - waiting for you to draft arrest warrants against @netanyahu. So quick to do a warrant against Putin for removing 6000 children from the war zone to Russia, but now won't file a warrant against a man responsible for killing 6000 Palestinian children.
The Rome Statute (2002) upon which you are based is quite clear about the crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide. Any brief glance at the Statute and the evidence suggests you should have filed a warrant already. Your credibility hangs on a thread.
Your lead prosecutor Karim Khan KC was at Rafah and wrote a note on what he had seen. He seemed aghast at the situation in the video he posted from Rafah. And yet, since he left Egypt, there has been no public movement from the @IntlCrimCourt.

[thread] Israel claims, after killing around 10,000 Palestinians, that it has killed 'dozens' of Hamas militants (). What is the formula for civilians to militants as far as the @IDF and @netanyahu are concerned?cnn.com/middleeast/liv…
By saying that they have killed dozens of Hamas militants - their purported target - and having at the same time killed thousands of Palestinians, they have admitted to the world that their war has resulted in far more civilian deaths than combatant deaths. This is on the record.
Meanwhile, @IDF is bulldozing homes of civilians not only in northern Gaza, but also in Jenin. This doesn't look like a military operation to remove Hamas, but a massive civilisational campaign of ethnic cleansing from what @netanyahu & his political class call Greater Israel.

An occupying power (Israel) does not have the right to defend itself against those whom it is occupying (Palestinians).
International law requires the occupier to follow the Geneva Conventions.
Western governments don’t seem to grasp this - so, @POTUS, @RishiSunak, @JustinTrudeau, @Bundeskanzler, @EmmanuelMacron, stop saying that Israel has a ‘right’ to defend itself. Israel is the occupying power here.
@POTUS @RishiSunak @JustinTrudeau @Bundeskanzler @EmmanuelMacron You Western leaders want to say whatever you want that suits your interests, but we are no longer going to let you get away with butchering international law.

[Thread] The absurd @WSJ publishes a story with a fantasy Cold War headline: wsj.com/articles/cuba-…. There are no sources in this rather ramshackle piece of fiction.
Those who might not know this, should learn about Operations Northwoods by the US State that suggested the killing of US citizens by the US as a 'false flag' to initiate hostilities against Cuba. Don't my word for it. Read the government report: nsarchive2.gwu.edu/news/20010430/… Image
Such 'false flag' events include the 'Havana Syndrome' rumours that the US floated, which provoked increased sanctions against Cuba and then @CIA had to later deny (here's the @NPR story on the denials - npr.org/2022/01/20/107…). The excessive sanctions remain.

[thread] The latest @tri_continental newsletter resurrects the concept of the Triad (US-Europe-Japan) in order to better explore the structures of contemporary imperialism: thetricontinental.org/newsletterissu…. This concept represents the uneven unity of the bourgeoisies of these zones.
The concept 'Triad' was developed by Samir Amin (1931-2018), who used it from 1980 to best explore the way the US bourgeoisie had subordinated the European-Japanese bourgeoisies (hence uneven) but had held them in the same project (hence unity).

Samir's work from this thesis (Les effets structurels de l'intégration internationale des économies précapitalistes. Une étude théorique du mécanisme qui an engendré les éonomies dites sous-développées, 1957) was focused on the way imperialism subordinated the Third World. Image

[thread] ALERT: next week, @tri_continental & @DongshengNews will join with the leading Chinese intellectual journal Wenhua Zongheng to produce the first of four annual international editions of this important journal. We are so happy to let you know about this collaboration.
The first issue is called 'On the Threshold of a New International Order', which - after my editorial - has terrific essays by Yang Ping (editor, Wenhua Zongheng), Yao Zhongqiu (dean, Renmin University, Beijing) & Cheng Yawen (dean, Shanghai International Studies University).
The journal is a window into the intellectual and political debates within China. This is significant because a lot is said ABOUT China but little is known about the rich and varied discussions within China. We want to remedy that gap.
