1) I was in a space listening to some very lovely young people discussing the current events and whether they should vote blue next year.

As someone who grew up in a true communist state, here is what I would like to share.
2) Don’t be discouraged.

Disagreements do not prove you are wrong, spoiled and misguided. It indicates you guys are seeing things we people of elder generations do not yet see.

Do not punish yourself because of our limitation, biases and mistakes. The future belongs to you.
3) Granted, we are not going to solve problems such as Middle East, climate change, justice reform in the next 4-5 years.

That is the reason we count on you guys to continue our democracy.
4) Because we do not worship any red, green or orange deity, we will choose a human to run our country.

He/she WILL NOT BE perfect. But he /she will honor our constitution and he/she will leave in the legacy opportunities for your generation to continue to improve.
5) When you guys are ridiculed for your dreams such as world peace, the Green Deal etc, hold on to your dreams.

Americans are known for pursuing big dreams ridiculed by many at first, that was how some of us invented light bulb, airplanes, Internet and ended the Cold War.
6) You will continue this American tradition.

Honor it. Be proud of it.

Never doubt that when you are dreaming with the finest scholars on this planet, chances are you are more right than those scoffing at you.

American history will continue to prove that.
7) I came from a country where the government “solves” its problems by silencing dissonant voices.

That is how that place ended up with a 6-grader donning a PhD title guiding it in the age of AI.

Therefore I am glad to have moved to where every little guy’s voice counts.
8) In Nov 2024, I will act according to all what I shared above.

To cast my vote, is to celebrate my freedom, to pray for the future for my family and kids, and to share my unshakeable faith, that every younger generation will keep bringing the US to a better place.

(Tom Segev)

1) Asked to share my 2 cents on Xi's visit.

The interest is high.

Many Biden critics are busy painting how the US kowtowed again.

I am no expert on such state affairs. But I would like to point out a few very important details seemingly missed by observers of China.
2) To understand CCP's political culture, please read through this thread by @PavelSlunkin, once a Belorussian diplomat with extensive interaction with Mr. Qin Gang who just a few months ago was China's Foreign Minister.

Mr. Qin has been missing.

3) After reading @PavelSlunkin's thread, you would understand that such "etiquette" is of the highest importance to China's diplomacy.

This should not surprise anyone as to a totalitarian state, diplomacy is to project the dictator's power and prestige.

Gotta be perfect.

Image
