(🧵) I'm usually one to disregard cries of "cancel culture", but every now and then, this website will remind me that it's not always a BS complaint. Such a case is what we can see with this insanity that's happening to @gigajane, and it's nothing short of disgusting.

Some credit where it's due: ToonHive has gone out of their way to apologize for their horrible lack of research here. Too bad that doesn't stop the worst elements of Twitter from doing its thing. So, how about we crack some damn skulls?

Full disclosure: Jane is an in-and-out member of a small site that I'm a mod for, and even though I wouldn't say we're necessarily friends, we've still known and been on good terms with each other for several years. Not once in that time has she caused any kind of a stir with us.

We only become mutuals today (on Bluesky, not here), so I only knew about this drama by happening to look at her account a couple of days ago. Imagine my shock when I find out that one of our community's friendlier people is in the middle of such a firestorm!

Now, for what, exactly? I'm told that Jane: A) is an alt-right troll, and B) caused an artist to commit suicide (which I've been completely unable to verify) by harassing them.

...Well, I'm not convinced. I don't play the game of social media telephone, so I had to look deeper.

Claim B is *completely* baseless. If your only sources for such a serious accusation are the Creepy Fruit Site and a Youtube video by an anonymous throwaway account, maybe you should start wondering whether or not *you're* the one who's uncritically sharing bullshit.

Claim A is a little more mixed, as a certain mob of unbearably smug Twitter freaks would gladly try to jump on this thread and tell me, thinking they're really doing something:

See, that attempt at a save might be valid... were it not for the fact that the screenshot I showed above, where Jane owns up to it in private to the leader of my site, is actually from *November 2020.* It's almost like talking out of your ass is a bad idea, isn't it?

Now, this is where I'm gonna step away from arguing the facts, and talk about something bigger.

I've read dozens, probably hundreds of quote tweets on this drama, that all repeat the accusations I've discussed.

Through all of them, I know that many of you *don't actually care.*

This isn't actually about justice for Ang Vondra, who this was originally supposed to be about. No, for a lot of you, this is about *you*, getting an ego boost out of pretending to care for a victim. You can lie, you can gaslight, but I see right through it.

Wanna know how I know this? Because, when the accusations against Jane of harassment completely fell apart, you didn't apologize for repeating them. Y'all are instead trying to cover your asses by presenting contextless bad DMs as proof that you were right all along.

Y'all do the wokescold "you weren't groomed! you just suck!" song and dance, and in doing so, you tell me a lot more than you'd like. You really *don't think it's possible* for someone to be manipulated to a horrible extent! Tell me again: who's got the mindset of an abuser here?

My partner was also the victim of a horribly abusive and manipulative relationship, and during it, said horrible things that she's never uttered before or since. I know what it looks like for someone to be dragged down to those depths. You absolute twats clearly do not.

As I said above, Jane has proven herself in my community to clearly not be like this anymore. It's the word of me and a bunch of other people who know her, versus that of random virtue-signaling freaks on Twitter. So, who's it gonna be?

I've been trying to cold turkey out of Twitter since August for this exact reason, but seeing so many people smugly talking out of their ass about someone I actually know got my goddamn blood boiling. That soudns like it should be a sign of something, but I dunno what.

Jane: whether or not you're actually gonna yeet out of this site soon, I hope this bullshit ends soon. I hope people learn to stop playing this fucked up game of social media telephone.

...I know a lot of my hopes are probably in vain, but to hell with it, might as well try.

One last thing: if you're one of the people I'm calling out in this thread, don't even try to have a go at me in the replies. You'll only regret the attempt, 'kay?
