Today is an historic day, an unprecedented level of coordination between Amazon workers on strike in 31 countries for our #MakeAmazonPay campaign. And I can't stop thinking about Amazon's complicity in the assault on Gaza.
Amazon x Israel: A thread 🧵👇🏽
Amazon "Project Nimbus" serves the Israel's military's data needs. Well before Oct 7, security forces have recorded and retained data on Palestinians, and surveilled them using facial recognition. Read @amnesty's report "Automated Apartheid" for the full history.
Two months ago, Amazon announced a whopping $7.2 billion further investment, allowing Israel's government to run applications and store data in newer data centers across Israel. Here's AWS's vice president on Nimbus, and working with Israel's government.
Israel is extremely invested in autonomous 'robo-snipers' and suicide drones: "Euphemistically described as a ‘fire-and-forget’ weapon, the Israeli Aerospace Industries’ Harop autonomously attacks any target meeting previously identified criteria."
In fact, Amazon’s business operations with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) go much further back — with IAI (which supplies the army with aircraft, drones, missiles, spy satellites etc) converting ~80% of Amazon's aircraft fleet to cargo use.
Amazon doesn't do it alone. It works with Palantir, the US data firm which gave Israel the so-called predictive systems to identify Palestinians deemed a “threat” via social media posts. They love Israel, and announced it to their shareholders. middleeasteye.net/news/israel-pa…
This is only cursory. As the assault on Gaza intensifies, so will the complicity of these companies. The webs of evil run deep, and our fight against Amazon is only the start. Stand with the workers on global strike today, and don't cross the picket line. act.progressive.international/amazon-picket-…

(1/10) This internal culture is a MANIFESTATION of a broader philosophy in this industry. White liberal feminists have used “gender equality” to hold onto power for ages. The non-profit industrial complex makes this a sustainable endeavour. Here are just a few elements:
(2/10) It starts with feminist epistemology: How do we know what we know? Sex-disaggregated data is an insufficient answer. It only asks “how many women do xyz?” and not “how is the meaning of xyz altered by gender” or “what gendered processes produce our knowledge about xyz”
