“They stripped me of my clothes and raped me in front of my husband”
a former prisoner in Assad's prisons Lawla Agha says:
“after detaining me they informed me that my husband confessed being a member of armed groups, & I motivated him to do so—
also that I was transferring information to the Free Army.
I told them: My husband is a government employee and has never missed a single day from work, so how can he be in the Free Army?”
Then I heard them asking someone his name and it was my husband's voice—
my eyes were covered but I recognized his voice then they removed the blinders from my eyes and his eyes, and he was shocked by my presence in front of him screamed that they were confessions under torture, and it was clear that he had been subjected to a lot of torture.
They beat him all over his body & hit his head against the wall. Then they told him to watch what happens to me. They stripped me of my clothes and raped me in front of him. I didn't look at him anymore. He was screaming the whole time, then he fell silently.
I thought he had fainted but two days later the officer told me that he died.
He died in front of me & I didn’t know that he died.
I don't think he died from the beating, but rather from humiliation.
He died from what they did to me in front of him.”—
I remained detained for 3 years. All my hope during that time was not to forget my children’s faces.
I tried to remember them all day long to not forget them
I was afraid that their features would escape from my memory
I could forgive Beating and torture.
But I can never forgive what happened to me in front of my husband.
Many believe that no one can be arrested or tortured unless he is involved in something.
but it’s wrong
I did nothing nor my husband did The prison camp was full of people like us and they were oppressed”
