There is a reason despite Iowa’s offensive issues they win so much. Let me explain:

Iowa will limit possessions, despite an offense that doesn’t move the ball much. Let’s say each team gets ~12 possessions a game (6 a half)
So they start with the ball at the -25. You know their O is bad, but they string a few sets of downs together and get out to the 50 before punting.

You’re pinned inside the 10 which makes you more conservative. 3 and out. They get the ball back at the 50.
They pin you inside the 10 after another 3 and out. You move the ball a little bit stall at about the -35. Punt back to the 25.

They pick up one first down and punt back. You have the ball starting at the 25.

You pick up a few 1st downs but stall and fail to convert on 4th down
After a 3 and out you get ball back around -25. You’ve now used 4 of your possessions of half and scored nothing

Say you score 2 of your possessions but they get a TO and score points. You end up at half 10-7 and beating yourself up because their O is so bad but game is tight
They are the epitome of this. You aren’t built for it. You panic. You play tight because the most likely way to lose is TOs so you’re not aggressive. It turns into a slog with evenly matched teams and you lose.

This is 10-2 Iowa

You shouldn't clutch pearls if you live in a glass house...

A mini-thread on why this news is important, and how it isn't important
A number of rival fans are replying "but I thought sign stealing wasn't illegal." This is true. And unless the NCAA wants to say staffs sharing info is effectively advanced scouting (no way they do), nothing in this new information is illegal. What Stalions likely did still is
That's why Stalions is gone. It's also why Harbaugh will likely get eventually hit with penalties.

But, it gives some insight into what goes on in major college football with respect to sign stealing. That's important because it gives plausible deniability...

For UM O vs OSU D.

It really starts with the OL for UM. 4/5 guys are likely draft picks, they maul, and they do a lot. The efficiency of their blocking with how much they do is extremely rare in CFB, and how much they do allows for some misses to still work
IZ is still favored scheme, but probably not majority this year. Lots more Power (and well executed this year), Pin and Pull, and plenty of Duo, windback, Counter OT, Counter OH, and a few other change ups. Plus read run. Very diverse, and run well
Olu has been everything advertised and more. Has all tools to be first C drafted. Zinter is a mean run blocker, though has had some issues in pass pro. Keegan I think is really underrated. Been beat up this year, but is very good. They have depth at G too

Ok, some Thanksgiving morning thoughts on Michigan-OSU. Would have loved to break down more film for everyone this year, but this will probably be the best I can do…
Let’s start with OSU O and Stroud. Obviously, it starts with him and he shoulders a ton of the load. One of best QBs in CFB. Smart. Understands presnap reads with leverage and reaction to motion. Can make all the throws even if he doesn’t have the traditional Dan Marino cannon
I always read “pressure him and he breaks” and it seems to come from both rivals and his own fans, but I think it’s very over stated. Stroud is good vs pressure, good escaping it. While pressure helps (does vs any QB) it’s not *especially* vs Stroud. The real key is…

So we start MSU-Michigan week a week early. Before I start breaking down the last game of each, I'll set the stage a bit.
An earlier tweet asked about MSU's health. They have had a case of the injury bug this year, which as everyone knows, is an excuse for every woe for the fanbase suffering from it, and "next man up" for every rival going against it.
In the case of MSU, they lost for significant time maybe the most important players at each level of the defense: Slade, Snow, and Henderson.

Slade was back last week, but limited, I expect he'll be mostly good to go, and DT depth is pretty solid anyway

Some crazy FBS records:

In 1995, Alex Smith (Indiana) had 22 rush attempts vs MSU in the 1st quarter (114 yards)

Archie Griffin ran for 100+ yards in 31 consecutive games (ended by UM in 1975)

Ricky Williams is the only RB to have back-to-back 300+ yard games
In a 5 game stretch, Barry Sanders ran for 320, 215, 312, 293, 332 yards. 1472 yards in 5 games

LaDainian Thomlinson averaged 263 yards per game vs UTEP (3 games)

Howard Griffith (Illinois) ran for 8 TDs vs Southern Illinois (3 on consecutive carries)
Corey Dillon had 305 All-Purpose yards in the 1st quarter vs SJSU

Connor Halliday threw the ball 89 times for WSU vs Oregon in 2013

Rashaun Woods (Ok St) caught 7 TDs in one game (5 in one half)

Nordly Capi (Colorado St) forced 4 fumbles in one game

I finally got around to seeing John Wick and John Wick Chapter 2. Here are my long-winded musings that you probably don’t care about. John Wick is a nearly perfect action B-moving (will explain this definition to me in an aside). (1/14)
John Wick masterfully avoids verbose exposition. It doesn’t even try to have it, which means there’s no ham-fisted insertion of needless dialog that ruins the pace, provides unnecessary background, or complicates the story. Perfect. (2/14)
He loves his wife. It’s given about 2 min. It doesn’t try to make it a special love - more than most - through awkward flashbacks or cringeworthy examples. Love is enough and is relatable or at least desirable to make its point. Nothing else is needed and movie knows it. (3/14)
