The guy on the left lacks the brainpower to work with abstract ideas, so he only uses trial and error experience to understand the world.
The middle guy is just smart enough that he can use theoretical frameworks. But he knows he’s not the smartest guy out there and he doesn’t want to be considered dumb so he adopts others’ theoretical frameworks. He values them over his own experience.
The guy on the right is smart enough to do both - he understands the theoretical frameworks AND uses trial and error experience.
So the two on the ends reach the same conclusions. They are wise.
But the middle guy is misled by trusting what he has been told over his own experience. He is foolish.
Reliably true for so many situations.
You know what else this meme works for?
Given how much anxiety, loneliness, and bad habits are hamstringing everyone these days, wouldn’t it be great if you could be the guy on the right?
You ever wondered why a foot (12 inches) is the length it is?
You may have heard it was the size of some king’s actual foot, and he established it as a standard measure for convenience.
Nice story, but not true.
The real story is much older and more interesting.

Let’s go back to the megalithic age, 7,500 years ago to a place called Carnac in Brittany.
Ancient priests and astrologers watched the night sky with great interest as the planets moved, the moon waxed and waned, and the sun progressed through the 12 constellations of the Zodiac
At Carnac, some interesting things happen with the stars and the earth.
At the summer and winter solstices, the sun’s rising and setting points form a perfect 3-4-5 right triangle with the east-west cardinal directions.
(The ovals mark giant stones placed by ancient priests)
