It has been quite the year, so as a distraction from all that here are my WTF TV news moments from 2023 ✨
1. When BBC News told us that it was watching BBC News.
2. When Sky News said “good evening Daddy”
3. When BBC Look North said “good boy” instead of “goodbye”
4. When BBC Points West ended a bulletin by typing “DHEKEJFHDHDJD”
5. When this cat made an unexpected (and brief) cameo in the middle of a BBC News interview
Bonus radio moment: When Tony Blackburn did this hell of a radio link on Radio 2
6. When Harry Styles performed in Wales and viewers got this helpful forecast
7. When @LukwesaBurak had a surreal minute on air when an item didn’t play out
@LukwesaBurak 8. When these scousers didn’t know that Eurovision was coming to Liverpool
9. When an interview someone arriving at Glastonbury resulted in a misunderstanding about “rollers”
10. When Kirsty Young introduced “Anton Du Berk” during the BBC’s Coronation coverage
11. When breaking news caused GB News to have a complete meltdown
12. When BBC Breakfast showed us footage of a pigeon hitting a man’s head and Naga Munchetty lost it

13. When BBC News couldn’t show us a picture of a supermoon so just improvised

14. When Lord Baker’s phone wouldn’t stop going off on Newsnight - @vicderbyshire

@vicderbyshire 15. When BBC Midlands Today said this about cheese at the end of an item about cheese rolling
16. And when @NickOwenTV got down with the kids on Midlands Today

17. When ITV News Wales told viewers to enjoy “the riggbgbgby”
18. When Look North asked viewers for stories about old appliances…

It was all going well until the vacuum cleaner
19. And when @Peter_Levy reported the latest on Lincoln’s “glory hole”
20. When ITV News had an almighty slip up whilst talking about the “market price of gas”
21. When BBC News reported on “mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm”
22. When TalkTV aired their best ever programme
23. When @peter_levy came out with quite the innuendo to weather presenter Paul Hudson - @hudsonweather

24. When a BBC News presenter was caught swearing on air at the start of a bulletin

25. When all of the news channels broadcasted “useless fuckpigs” in the middle of the day

26. And finally… when @BBCBreakfast took a turn when the Daleks turned up
27. The Daleks appeared on @BBCBreakfast just before the regional news.

The way the regions reacted is amazing.

“Netflix to reveal for first time how many people watch its shows in the UK”!!! theguardian.com/media/2022/oct…
Netflix is to join the audience measurement system BARB, which means that we can finally see how popular their shows are compared to shows on traditional TV channels.

They made a promise back in 2019 - and they’re following through with it.
Why are Netflix doing this?

* They are launching an ad-supported model, so they need to have transparency so that advertisers can be convinced to part with cash.

* When Netflix have a really big show, it'll now be obvious. Their shows will also make BARB's Top 50 shows.

BBC One have scheduled shows for this evening (so far) but have replaced Celebrity MasterChef with an episode of The Repair Shop.
The One Show won’t be airing this evening.
I understand that Celebrity MasterChef won't be airing on BBC One tonight as the contestants were making a dish to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
