Here's a 🧵

In criticizing new poll numbers, I've been hearing a lot from some Michigan Republicans about poll results being off in the 2018 U.S. Senate race, featuring John James.

Let's dive a little deeper into the numbers. detroitnews.com/story/news/pol…
There are some similarities in the survey results.

In late Sept. 2022, Whitmer is leading Dixon by 17 points.

In late Sept./early Oct. 2018, Sen. Debbie Stabenow was leading James by 18 in our poll.

Stabenow eventually won on Election Day by 6.

Polls are snapshots in time, as pollster Richard Czuba says.

If you look closely at the 2018 numbers, there was clear room for James to narrow the gap.

The margin of error of plus-minus 4 percentage points.

About 10% were undecided.

Among the interesting comments:

"Everybody that's been giving money, this is you guys. You funded this," DePerno's client, Bill Bailey, said during a 2021 interview about a video that showed a so-called expert running ballots through a tabulator in a Royal Oak apartment.
On the steps of the Michigan Capitol in June 2021, DePerno said the following, according to a video obtained by @detroitnews:

"I can only do so much. I can assemble a couple of attorneys in Michigan. I can get some forensic experts. We can get our hands on some machines."
David Becker, a national election security expert, asked this question when I talked to him this week:

What would DePerno + his supporters be saying if liberal groups obtained tabulators, moved them to rental properties and ran tests on them in secret? detroitnews.com/story/news/loc…

Here’s an image from the video of the “Michigan Constitutional Crusader” recording in the office of the Secretary of the Senate:
"Can I help you guys with something?"

"We're just looking around, thanks."
"If you don't want to be on video, then you need to take a job in the private sector," the "Constitutional Crusader" says.

A sheriff has filed a suit with affidavits that focus on a conspiracy theory about markers that was debunked literally weeks ago.

This is an affidavit in the case filed in federal court: “I do not know if my ballot was appropriately counted due to completing it with a marker.”
The fact that this is still floating around and getting coverage as a legitimate concern is unfortunate.

From the Michigan Secretary of State:
Another actual affidavit from Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf's lawsuit.

A voter says she was concerned by UNOFFICIAL results she saw at one point because "I had used a sharpie marker and I never used one before."

The facts are the facts.

Michigan GOP lawmakers gave individuals whose election claims have previously been refuted a new and brighter spotlight to make their false assertions again this week: detroitnews.com/story/news/pol…
During the hearing, one lawmaker asked a "witness" why the media keeps saying his claims have been debunked.

It's because it takes one call to a local clerk or election official to debunk the person's claim.
There's a report in 1 of the Michigan lawsuits that there was 781% turnout in a precinct in North Muskegon.

I asked the Muskegon County election coordinator if there's any chance a county board of canvassers would certify results with that turnout.

Her answer: "No. No."

Wow.

The beginning of the City of Detroit's response to Sidney Powell's lawsuit in Michigan: Image
MORE: "Plaintiffs seek nothing less than a court-ordered coup d’état. They, quite literally, ask that the results for the selection of Michigan’s Presidential electors in the November 3, 2020 election 'be set aside.'"
Here's the city's blunt summary response to claims from Jessy Jacob, who was interviewed by Rudy Giuliani during the Michigan House hearing last night. Image
