SitRep - 09/01/24 - UAV's in Oryol and AFU counterattacks

An overview of the daily events in Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine attacked fuel depots in Oryol and damaged at least one tank. Meanwhile Krynky is heating up and Russia is taking a beating.

As usual we start with Russian losses over the past 24 hours
During the day, two recon drones were shot down
In the Avdiivka direction, a high-valuable TOS-1A flamethrower system was destroyed. A second one managed to get away but hopefully will be tracked down later.
Russian infantry targeted inside a private house on the left bank
During the day, explosions were reported in Oryol, Russia. Somewhat later it became known that drones attacked fuel depot tanks
At the same time in the Kursk region, explosions were noted. The Russian MoD noted that all drones - also in Oryol- were allegedly shot down.
Well, this doesn't look shot down to me.
Fireworks from Krynky. Destroyed equipment, and infantry. In Krynky, Russians have really taken a beating the last few days, losing 20+ vehicles/armor if not more.
Russian infantry gets hit over and over with FPV drones in the Avdiivka direction. Recently the 47th received a new large batch of FPV drones for the defense, which Russia is feeling already.

German defense company FFG will create a repair hub in Ukraine for armored equipment such as the Leopard 1 tank
Hungary said it is ready to compromise and retract its veto for aid to Ukraine if aid will be reviewed annually.

The only thing that should be reviewed annually is the EU's willingness to keep Hungary part of it.
There are other things Hungary needs to worry about. MEPs were speaking about it already, but now the first Finnish MEP has started a petition to revoke Hungary's voting rights in the EC.
Back in 2022, Zaluzhnyi was planning to launch an offensive towards the sea of Azov and cut the Russian landbridge in occupied Kherson/Zaporizhzia. The US didn't approve and support the plan and told Zaluzhnyi to go for Kherson (right bank) instead.
Lots of Ukrainian high ranking generals and officials visited the Kupyansk region today.

Novomykhailivka

➡️The AFU managed to push back Russians from the southern part of Novomykhailivka where it had been conducting offensive actions to push into the settlement,without any succes. It regained some area's which are now back under Ukrainian control again. Image
Avdiivka-Stepove

➡️The AFU has pushed back Russians from parts of eastern Stepove and also managed to regain control over a treeline in between Stepove and the Avdiivka Coke Plant. Reversing Russian gains made over the last 1-2 weeks.

A reassesment. Geolocated footage shows that Russian troops control more area north/northwest of Verbove than initially thought. There has been talk of a small/local Russian offensive in this area lately, but there was no visual confirmation. There is now. Image
