🚨SOUTH AFRICA MADE ITS CASE AGAINST ISRAEL IN THE INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE🚨
I’m seeing a lot of people talking about Israel & South Africa but not a dedicated explanation so I’ve created this this thread to hopefully make things easier to understand.
Let me explain 🧵
Thursday, January 11th, 2024- South Africa (🇿🇦) made its case in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) where 🇿🇦's administrative capital Pretoria accuses Israel (🇮🇱) of breaching the Geneva Convention- the first legal instrument to codify genocide as a crime.
The ICJ, 1/6 of the principle organs of the UN, is the only international court to make decisions/formal judgements on general disputes between countries, guided by international laws- including the Geneva convention.
Now, 🇿🇦 has called on it to halt 🇮🇱 military action in Gaza
🇿🇦’s presention led by John Dugard- specialist in public international law, human rights, crim procedure & international crim law- lasted 3 hours.
Emphasis was placed on the extent of suffering in Palestine (🇵🇸) on Palestinians, & touched on 5 main genocidal acts committed by 🇮🇱
The 5 acts prominent 🇿🇦 lawyer, Adila Hassim spoke on:
1. Mass Killing
Showing the court images of the often unidentified mass graves, 🇿🇦 reps maintain 🇮🇱 set off massively destructive bombs in Gaza, calling it 1 of the heaviest bombing campaigns in modern warfare history
2. Forced displacement & food blockade
Hassim presented to the ICJ that 🇮🇱 has imposed conditions that cannot realistically sustain life, forcing people flee with no homes to return to (see point on bombing). Also citing how 🇮🇱 issued 24hr evacuation orders to hospitals
3. Bodily & Mental Harm.
Hassim was determined to highlight is 🇮🇱 infliction of such- citing Close to 60,000 people have been wounded & maimed, most of whom women & children, given 🇮🇱 restriction on 🇵🇸 healthcare & aid workers, the sabotage of medical care is itself genocidal.
4. Destruction of the healthcare system
Attacking hospital buildings themselves is only part of the action 🇮🇱 has taken against the healthcare system.
With overwhelming the need for lifesaving care & restricting workers & resources- 🇮🇱 is creating preventable mass death
5. Preventing Palestinian Birth
Blocking & restricting medical access includes the blocking life-saving treatment needed to deliver babies.
🇮🇱 inflicts reproductive violence as it creates conditions putting expectant mothers at risk of maternal death (defined by WHO below)
We may not see the ICJ reach a verdict for potentially years, however 🇿🇦’s immediate goal is to compel them to issue a request for an emergency order against the continuing killings & destruction in Gaza.
It is possible an interim sentence could be out in the weeks coming.
There’s so much more that is happening & will happen. I will end it here for now but may do a follow up in the coming days/weeks as things progress.
Without question I believe 🇮🇱‘s cold blooded treatment of 🇵🇸 must end

It’s been about a day & a half since Kissinger passed & the masses have celebrated.
His life & legacy will undoubtedly be used as a springboard for fascists who will follow in his footsteps.
Who was Kissinger? What did he do?
Let me explain 🧵
Henry Kissinger (formerly Heinz Kissinger) was a former American (🇺🇸) Secretary of State & National Security advisor under the Richard Nixon & Gerald Ford presidential administrations from September 22, 1973 – January 20, 1977.
Kissinger- a refugee fleeing 3rd Reich era Germany (🇩🇪), settled in Manhattan, & eventually was drafted into the 🇺🇸 army, where he underwent military training in South Carolina & during that time gained citizenship.
In 1946, he taught at the European Command Intelligence School
~1 million Rohingya people are stuck in the biggest refugee camp in the world. Conditions are dire & the persecution of Rohingya is still ongoing. (sources at the end)
Let me explain 🧵
The Rohingya people are an ethnic group native to western Myanmar (🇲🇲) & despite being native- they are denied citizenship.
Prior to 2017- there were about 1.4 million of them living in 🇲🇲, they are predominantly Muslim, & have been facing apartheid since the 40s
The Kutupalong refugee camp (created in 1991) in southernmost Bangladesh (🇧🇩) was quickly created in response a sudden influx of Rohingya refugees feeling 🇲🇲 after “Operation Clean & Beautiful Nation” where 250,000 Rohingyas were displaced- with most fleeing to 🇧🇩
Pakistan is in the process of expelling over one million Afghan people as of the first of this month many of whom have lived in Pakistan their entire lives & fear for their lives once they relocate.
Let me explain🧵:
As of October, an official deadline for all undocumented refugees & migrants to leave Pakistan (🇵🇰) was issued amid accusations by the govt that Afghan nationals had carried out 14/24 svicide bombings in 🇵🇰 in 2023, a claim denied by the Afghan Ministry of Refugees & Repatriation
Afghan people began fleeing to 🇵🇰 as refugees during the era of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (🇦🇫) with an additional estimated 600,000 fleeing after the Taliban’s rise to power in Kabul in 2021 after the USA withdrew both military presence & aid from the country.
🚨THE DEADLIEST EVENT ON EARTH HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IS IN TIGRAY🚨
Right now, the same land where I used to play & laugh with family, is under attack by the Ethiopian government who are in active pursuits of wiping out the Tigrayan people!!
Let me explain 🧵
In 2018, Abiy Ahmed was appointed as the prime minister of Ethiopia (🇪🇹). During, he signed a “peace deal” with the Eritrean dictator Isaias Afwerki. In this deal, Abiy relinquished land to Eritrea (🇪🇷), including 1/3 of Tigray’s Irob region, with no regard to Tigray people
After allying with the Eritrean dictator, Abiy began to push 🇪🇹 into a unitary state instead of a multiparty ethnic federation. Because it’s easier to control populations if ethnic differences are suppressed, he dissolved all the political parties & merged them into one
