This will most likely be my final thoughts on everything going on with @Chuggaaconroy / Emile. I will probably get a lot of backlash for what I’m going to say in this tread, but they are my thoughts as of this current moment. 1/?🧵
There were 4 stages to what happened over the last few days. Stage 1) Emily’s initial grievances. Stage 2) Masae, Antdude, and others, Stage 3) The 48 page google doc. Stage 4) The aftermath. 2/?
When stage 1) occurred, I was in denial at first. I met Emile in person and the logs I read did not seem real from the experience I shared with him. After analyzing it further, I agree what he did was inappropriate, but he was never told to explicitly stop. 3/?
And from what I read, even when he asked Emily if she was okay with his messages, she said okay. From Emile’s perspective, I could see him thinking it was a risqué topic but both parties consenting. What followed was not an asking for him to stop, but ghosting. 4/?
How can you learn what you did to upset someone if they just ghost you? And I have heard the arguing point that sometimes victims feel strong armed into consenting. But from what I read, Emile gave a clear opportunity to double check everything was okay. 5/?
This lead me to defending Emile’s actions as I have been watching him consistently for all these years since the beginning. It was a mistake he made, but one he seemed keen on correcting in his later post. Then stage 2 began. 6/?
As more people started to share their experiences with Emile’s inappropriate behavior in private and public, I accepted I was wrong. Emile did fuck up; multiple times. He talked with people he felt close with about an uncomfortable and disgusting subject. 7/?
I admitted I jumped the gun when this was shown to be a repeat issue and knew it would stain his reputation. People started to freeze operations with anything Emile was involved with. I apologized and wished the victims of Emile’s words the best going forward. 8/?
At this stage, I felt people were overreacting and that everything could calm down as former friends and colleagues went their separate ways while Emile worked to improve himself. People started to say he was irredeemable at this point as well. Thats when stage 3 started. 9/?
The 48 page google doc from 2010 came out of nowhere from a person I never heard of before, but they had receipts. I read the whole thing. And this is where everything turned catastrophic. People who vaguely remembered Chuggaa from their childhood caught wind of the drama. 10/?
Having no prior knowledge as to what happened from their childhood until now with the drama, people started to berate Chuggaa and say horrible things about him. Accusations of sexual assault, grooming, and pedophilia. Going over the facts myself I came to this conclusion. 11/?
People viewed the 48 pg doc through a modern lens. Not through the lens of 2010. A 19 year old Emile, still learning to be an adult is contacted by a fan who is 15. The age gap is cutting it close, but these are messages with a recently graduate senior and a freshman. 12/?
The internet in 2010 was a lot more edgy and unfiltered than it is today. Pedo-bear was a popular meme, as well as the “I’m going to R*** you!” sound bite. Going in with this lens, I notice a very similar behavior of what happened with Emily. 13/?
Talks started respectfully between a fan and creator. The fan egged him on with risqué comments that he initially dodges. As they continue to get closer as friends, talking about relationships and such, Emile takes his filter off with a person he feels comfortable around. 14/?
Cringe 2010 RP plays out, mostly in a joking matter as it is inter-spliced with conversation. Through both parties slowly pushing the social barrier, things reach an intensity level that is uncomfortable and gross to read. But Emile was not the only one instigating. 15/?
Lawly even forcibly gives Emile a pet name and is the one to raise RP stakes sometimes. With all this information I have provided, it seems the majority of onlookers interpreted it completely differently. They saw a modern Emile in their head typing this to a 15 year old. 16/?
Was what Emile did with all these women bad? Yes. Was it uncomfortable and painful? Yes. However, the severity of the situation in my eyes, is not how the majority of people saw it. They saw a two faced irredeemable monster using their fame to SA people.17/?
Stage 4 begins. Fans are dropping like flies. Communities are shutting down. Fellow colleges and friends are abandoning Emile. My dearest sympathy still goes out to everyone he hurt over the 14 years of repeated behavior. But IMO this backlash is insane. 18/?
I was breaking down emotionally. I saw a hellfire raging toward someone I cared for and there was nothing I could do. I voiced my thoughts; had people using my posts to voice how much of a monster they thought Emile was. It made me feel even worse every response I got. 19/?
So many people abandoning a man going through hell over inappropriate messages. No one could be around him without having the inferno engulf them as well. So everyone just stayed away. Empty hopes he would better himself but not sticking around to see if he would. 20/?
I can not imagine how all of this must have felt for him. And hearing he was admitted to the hospital suddenly made everyone pull back. “He’s still a monster but he shouldnt die. Just disappear forever.” Was the general consensus I witnessed from there on to now. 21/?
I don’t want Emile to abandon his passion over this. He is extremely talented in what he does. But because of a few fuck ups, his livelihood is destroyed. He doesn’t get any more chances. And no matter what happens now, he will never hear the end of this. 22/?
I do hope he comes back one day to continue creating. I do hope some of his friends stick by him despite the backlash. TRG is probably dead because of this as no-one can associate with him now. And with that said, I will get to my final consensus. 23/?
To the victims of Emile’s actions. I wish you the best in life going forward and to be able to heal from this. To Emile, I also wish you to heal from this and improve yourself. I hope you still make content in the future, despite the general populous disagreeing. 24/?
And as things finally start to wind down and I reflect on the fallout of everything, I see the same old Twitter. Dog piling someone, canceling them into oblivion, ruining their lives, and getting bored and moving to the next target in a week or so. It hurts. 25/?
