I can name TONS of great Tracy Chapman songs.
(a somewhat outraged thread) (1)
-"Baby Can I Hold You" was covered by everybody from Pavarotti to George Michael to Neil Diamond to Nicki Minaj
-Clapton covered "Gimme One Reason"
-Neil Young played on Tracy Chapman's 2nd album
(2) -JUNIOR WELLS covered "Gimme One Reason" (!)
-Emmylou Harris covered "All That You Have Is Your Soul"
-Sam Smith & Beiber both covered "Fast Car"
-Foxy Brown made "Fast Car" a Reggae hit long before Luke Combs's version
(3) -She toured with Springsteen & Sting on Amnesty International's Human Rights Now! Tour
-She duetted "Don't Give Up" w/Peter Gabriel every night on that tour & her vocal is as great as Kate Bush's
-Her "Stand By Me' on Letterman was such a viral hit it was released on an album
(4) I've seen her live in giant stadiums & tiny clubs.
I got to see her:
-open for 10,000 Maniacs before "Fast Car" was released
-play "Times They Are A Changin" at the Dylan tribute
-play "Imagine" on piano at Grammys
-"Freedom Now" at the Nelson Mandela Yankee Stadium rally
(5) -"Bang Bang Bang" may be the greatest song abt gun violence ever
-Listen to her live duet of "The Thrill Is Gone" with BB King & hang your head in shame
-1st album = 6x Platinum/3 Grammys
-4th album = 5× platinum & Grammy for Best Rock Song
-1st Black woman to win a CMA
(6) -And the 1st Black woman to score a country #1 with a solo composition
Of course, Tracy Chapman's too wise to care about her place in music. I'm just tired of hearing her body of work dismissed. I hope an album is nigh.
And the Rock Hall needs her more than she needs it.

1. My 1st thought abt David Crosby is to exploit the moment & tell you to check out his last 5 solo albums, starting with "Croz" in 2014; then "Lighthouse" in '16, "Sky Trails" in '17, "Here If You Listen" in '18 and "For Free" in '21.
I think he'd want those hyped.
2. Also, everybody needs to see @ajeaton's excellent documentary “Remember My Name” produced by @CameronCrowe.
It’s all of the beauty & chaos of David with blunt honesty & bravura filmmaking. It's be worth watching for the animated sequence where he’s fired from The Byrds.
3. I never asked him about a CSN reunion for the same reason I wouldn’t ask Robert Plant abt a Led Zep reunion - bc the quality of the solo albums he was releasing was so high.
1. Look at this - apparently, listing my alternate accounts is "potentially harmful."
To all the Nazis who've been let back on this site.
So allow me to share them in a thread.
