How to Destroy your Fears in 3 Easy Steps:

(Thread)

Powered by @flatgroundapp Image
@FlatgroundApp For 5 years, I’ve struggled with fear of failure.

In 2019 I signed a professional baseball contract, but the yips quickly followed.

Every game turned into a battle against fear.

This struggle led to *years* of research into fear.

This is what I’ve found: Image
@FlatgroundApp The 3 steps to Destroy Fear:

1. Deconstruct
2. Irrationalize
3. Exposure

How I got Recruited to my "Dream" D1 School (step-by-step process):

Powered by @FlatgroundApp Image
@FlatgroundApp In 2017 I was a 16 year old "non prospect" throwing 78 mph.

Fast forward 2 years, I get an offer from my Dream D1 school (@StanfordBSB).

This is the story of how I did it:
@FlatgroundApp @StanfordBSB Important Note:

I took a very intentional approach and I believe I'm mostly self made, however luck also played a major role.

This is the process I followed, but won't be replicable for everyone.

My hope is that it can aid someone’s baseball journey in a small way.

Yamamoto just signed a 12 year, $325 million contract.

So I spent *hours* binging Japanese video to study him.

What I found?

• Why he eliminated the leg lift
• Why he throws javelins
• Grips and Cues for his pitches

Let’s Dive In ⬇️:

1) His goal is to optimize the efficiency of his delivery.

• A full leg kick made him feel stuck.
• A true slide step made him feel rushed.

The result?

A modified slide step.
1.1) The transition from the back leg and lead leg is key.

He frequently emphasizes his weight transition.

Instead of using brute force - he focuses on optimizing his weight transition from his back leg to lead leg, to throw hard effortlessly.

1) Whatever you baseball goals are:

There's a playbook on how to get there.

It’s called Kaizen. Image
2) Kaizen is a Japanese word meaning ‘continuous improvement’.

It’s the idea of letting daily improvements compound, leading to significant progress over time.

How I went from throwing 78mph to 95mph (in 2 years):

Powered by @FlatgroundApp Image
When I turned 16, I wanted to attend a powerhouse D1 or play professional baseball.

The only problem?

I was a pitcher topping out at 78 mph.

Fast forward two years, I’m consistently hitting 95mph.

This is the story of how I did it.
Reflecting back on this period, I see 5 major drivers for my increase in velocity:

1) Raising the Benchmark
2) Gain 30 Pounds of Quality Weight
3) 2 High-Intensity Throwing/Week
4) Lifting with a purpose
5) Took Time Off from Playing

The KING of Baseball:

Shohei Ohtani.

I spent *hours* binging Japanese video to study him.

What I found?

5 Principles that propel him to greatness.

Let's dive in: ⬇️

1): Set specific goals, but stay quiet about them. Image
1.1): Ohtani is very specific with his goal setting, even at a young age.

The goal matrix that he created when he was 15:

It detailed how to maximize every component of becoming the best baseball player he can be.
