In 2023, Google News mostly curated articles from @CNN (Lean Left bias) and @nytimes (Lean Left) over a 2-week period.
Just 6% of all articles came from outlets on the right โ with the most-curated conservative source being @FoxNews (Right), which made up 5%.
AllSides also analyzed Google News in 2022.
While Google curated 13% less Left-rated outlets in 2023, it curated 16% ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฆ Lean Left outlets.
The share of Right-rated outlets increased very slightly, by 3%.
The overall bias was still Leaning Left.
For search terms like "๐ข๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ" and "๐ฆ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ค๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ," results were also mostly from Lean Left outlets.
Outlets on the right never accounted for more than 12% of results, except for the term โ๐๐ช๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ฏ.โ
Back in the days leading up to the 2022 midterms, AllSides found the search term โ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ค๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏโ returned no Google News results from Center-, Lean Right- or Right-rated media outlets.
AllSides has analyzed the bias of multiple news aggregators, and found most of them Lean Left.
Just because news is aggregated from various sources does not mean you are getting a full picture.
Back then, we found a 65% left bias. The number has remained relatively steady.
