In 2023, Google News mostly curated articles from @CNN (Lean Left bias) and @nytimes (Lean Left) over a 2-week period.

Just 6% of all articles came from outlets on the right โ€” with the most-curated conservative source being @FoxNews (Right), which made up 5%. Image
AllSides also analyzed Google News in 2022.

While Google curated 13% less Left-rated outlets in 2023, it curated 16% ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ Lean Left outlets.

The share of Right-rated outlets increased very slightly, by 3%.

The overall bias was still Leaning Left. Image
For search terms like "๐˜ข๐˜ฃ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ" and "๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ค๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ," results were also mostly from Lean Left outlets.

Outlets on the right never accounted for more than 12% of results, except for the term โ€œ๐˜‰๐˜ช๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ.โ€ Image
Back in the days leading up to the 2022 midterms, AllSides found the search term โ€œ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ค๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏโ€ returned no Google News results from Center-, Lean Right- or Right-rated media outlets.
AllSides has analyzed the bias of multiple news aggregators, and found most of them Lean Left.

Google has shown left bias since at least 2018.

Back then, we found a 65% left bias. The number has remained relatively steady.

Here's the full timeline of Google's News' bias ๐Ÿงต Image
In 2018, then-President Donald Trump accused Google of bias after PJ Media (Right bias) published findings that 96% of results for the keyword "๐˜›๐˜ณ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ" were from left-leaning outlets.

An AllSides analysis that year found
In 2019, Northwestern University researchers found ๐—ท๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ ๐—บ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜๐—น๐˜† ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—ณ๐˜ ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜„๐˜€ ๐˜€๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ณ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€ in Google Newsโ€™ Top Stories section.

Google News shows strong left-leaning political bias, a new AllSides analysis found.

61% of media outlets presented on @googlenewsโ€™ homepage over a 5-day period were from sources AllSides rates on the left, with just 3% on the right.

Letโ€™s dive deeper๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ๐Ÿงต
