1. @elonmusk told his 175 million followers on this platform that Biden committed "treason" by "secretly" chartering flights to bring 320K "illegal immigrants" to the United States
Let's be clear: EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS CLAIM IS A BRAZEN LIE
Follow along for receipts
🧵
2. Musk is referring to a parole program for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans.
THIS IS NOT A SECRET!
Biden announced it in a speech on 1/5/23. It was covered extensively in the media. It was promoted in press releases. It is featured now on the @USCIS homepage!
@USCIS 3. Further, Biden is not chartering any flights. individuals are buying their own tickets on commercial flights
"If the beneficiary has been authorized to travel to the United States, they must arrange & fund their own travel," the USCIS website states
@USCIS 4. The program is not "treason." It is completely legal. The Immigration and Nationality Act gives the administration the ability to admit individuals for humanitarian reasons. It has been used by every D & R president since the law was passed in 1952, except Trump.
@USCIS 5. I want to pause here to note that Musk has altered the algorithm of this platform to promote his own account. And, by extension, right-wing misinformation.
Get the facts directly and subscribe to Popular Information.
6. Musk says the immigrants admitted under the program are a national security threat — "[i]t is highly probable that the groundwork is being laid for something far worse than 9/11" — because they are "unvetted." This is also false. The program requires all individuals to "[u]ndergo and pass required national security and public safety vetting."
@USCIS 7. The individuals entering the US through this program are not doing so illegally! But they are also ineligible to vote. And there is absolutely no evidence that non-citizens vote in US elections in significant numbers.
@USCIS 8. I will note that none of Musk's EMBARSSINGLY INACCURATE POSTS have a Community Note attached, despite reaching tens of millions of people.
It shows what a joke the @CommunityNotes program is.
1. A Congressman, @RepMikeCollins, participated in a vehemently anti-Semitic attack against a @washingtonpost journalist
His response was to pretend it didn't happen
Prominent corporations that are backing Collins' reelection are taking the same approach
🧵
2. The spark for the incident was a story by reporter @MauraJudkis about the closure of a CVS in DC.
Judkis acknowledged an increase in crime may have been a contributing factor, but noted the data doesn't support the current "moral panic" about shoplifting
To set the scene, she described the United States as "a sticky-fingered nation built on stolen land."
@MauraJudkis 3. This prompted the publication of an article by Fox News, republished in the New York Post with a misleading headline, "Washington Post reporter says shoplifting not a big deal because US built on ‘stolen land.’"
This is not something that Judkis says in the piece.
1. Major media outlets are pushing a false narrative about Nex Benedict's death
That narrative is being used as a cudgel by anti-LGBTQ extremists
The @AP and @CBSNews, thus far, have not issued corrections and are not answering questions

2. On Feb 21, the Owasso Police Department posted a statement to Facebook claiming that "preliminary information" from the medical examiner indicated that Nex "did not die as a result of trauma."
The @AP immediately published this piece: "Oklahoma police say nonbinary teen’s death was not result of injuries from high school fight"
Of course, that was NOT what the police said
@AP 3. The Owasso Police said that the medical examiner had preliminarily "indicated" that Nex's death was not due to "trauma." The word "trauma" does not appear in the @AP's report.
1. Yesterday, the FTC moved to block @kroger's proposed merger with @Albertsons
The 24-page complaint alludes to how the two companies conspired to thwart the effectiveness of a 2022 strike of @Kroger workers in Colorado
This "nefarious bargain" was first exposed earlier this month and shows how the companies are willing to work together to harm workers
And there are receipts
🧾🧾🧾
2. In 2022, the labor market was VERY TIGHT and @Kroger-owned stores in Colorado were paying low wages. Kroger already was thousands of workers short.
Then 8,400 @Kroger workers went on strike. This was potentially catastrophic for Kroger because its rival, @Albertsons, could lure the striking workers away with higher pay and better benefits
Even when the strike ended, Colorado's @Kroger locations would be crippled
But that never happened...
@kroger @Albertsons 3. Instead, @Albertson's secretly agreed to not to hire away striking @Kroger workers. This drastically reduced the leverage the striking workers had during negotiations
Nex Benedict's mom, Sue Benedict, is raising questions about statements issued by the Owasso Police regarding her child's death the day after being assaulted in a school bathroom
Nex's mom says she believes the Owasso Police's 2/21 statement is a "big cover"
Popular Information has identified several aspects of the Owasso Police statement that raise serious questions.
🧵
2. The 2/21 statement paints Owasso High School's response to the assault, which is part of the investigation, favorably. But large sections of the Owasso Police's February 21 statement were copied verbatim from a statement released by Owasso Public Schools on February 20.
3. Lieutenant Nick Boatman, a spokesperson for the Owasso Police who wrote the statement, told Popular Information that the statement "kind of came across as us being a voice piece for the school."
